Is there any merit in creating one military force in the UK?
Hello everyone,
I'm a SAC(T) Aircraft Technician in the RAF, currently working on the Puma Helicopters. I've been put onto a leadership course at very short notice, so I'm here in search of some help really..
I need to create a presentation that will be delivered to Station Execs on Monday afternoon. The topic I have been given is 'Is there any merit in creating one military force in the UK?' I hate public speaking beyond belief, so any tips for delivering a good presentation or public speaking are very welcome.
I would appreciate it greatly I you could post your views with explanations on the topic. Any factual evidence to support your veiws would be brilliant too as I could use this in my presentation or have it ready to back up any comments when questions are asked at the end of the presentation.
I've been doing lots of online research and have my own thoughts on the matter but first hand views of other people are exactly what I need.
Many thanks for your time,
Craig

Re: Is there any merit in creating one military force in the
Have had to deliver a few presentations, so tips for that:
Make good notes, that you can refer to if you go blank, but don't write out a script.
Practice practice practice, preferably in front of people, if not, use a mirror.
Make eye contact. Immediately makes you seem more confident.
If you get shaky hands, put them on the lectern, or behind you.
Stand still, don't jiggle.
Remember everyone in front of you will have stood where you are before, and they are all on your side.
Be prepared for questions. If you don't get asked any then it's a bonus.
With this topic, you have probably decided one way or the other, so it's all about backing it up with logical provable facts. Personally I'd hate it, all three services have quite different cultures, and there's a very good reason I chose not to join the army, but I can see how there could be some merits financially.
Good luck!

When the level of manpower gets so low would we need all that top heavy management skills for each of the services. Yes we will still need specialist who could point out problems on forth coming actions at just what would be needed from all three branches to achieve the results. I think one of the main problems is the fighting for funds from all three services. The Navy and Airforce have smaller numbers but far more expensive equipment, the Army is the largest of three services yet seems to get by with far less funds and modern equipment and have to make do and mend with what they have. When talk about new ships and planes you are talking billions of pounds, when the army tries to get vehicles to take a blast from a mine they seem to be put on hold or pushed back to the distant future.

Yes there is great merit in creating one military force in the UK.
The benefits would be enormous (Budget, control, communication, management, conformity, equipment, accommodation, streamlining etc).
So my proposal would be, ahem:
One cap badge - The Globe and Laurel.
One Regimental March - A Life on the Ocean Wave.
One culture - The dit culture.
One language - Bootneck slang, hoofin'.
One ethos - The Royal Marines ethos.
One Name - Her Majesty's Royal Marines.
Breathtakingly beautiful in it's simplicity and symmetry!
On a slightly more serious note.
I agree with Hyper's tips with exception to two:
Not everybody will be on your side - so be prepared to be robust.
Be prepared to field any questions asked, I would be disappointed if nobody asked any. But some may come from the people who are not on your side!
The trick is not to get caught out or flustered when asked a question (which may be a 'red herring'). Have your question answering strategy clear beforehand.

Ooops, just re-read your post and realised that your presentation was in late April.
In that case, how did it go?

To go along with your idea Walter would every one then have to pass the RMC course.

Absolutely!
In fact some should have to do it twice . . . . . at least . . . . . . . . in the rain . . . . barefoot . . . . . with no dinner!

Does that mean girls would have to leave?
I'd take that redundancy pay-out...

You could leave, but no redundancy pay outs I'm afraid.
All that dosh would be re-directed into The Royal Marines Drinking Fund.

Now what would the RMC be able to do, they are neither soldiers are sailors so just ho could they run things, then you would have the Para's up staging then at every turn.

I'm afraid that this is my "virtual world" and therefore everybody else's comments are rendered not valid . . . . . unless I agree with them.
The Paras would be assimilated, it's what they would have wanted. Hey, I didn't make the rules . . . . . . . well I did but that's not the point.
