Advice wanted, all input appreciated.

Post by JSF »

Hi,

I was after some advice, but unusually about my specific circumstances.

I am 23, currently studying for a degree in modern foreign languages. I will be 25 in the year when I graduate.

At this moment in time I am on my year abroad, in Spain.

I am seriously considering taking exit credits for the 2 university years I've completed and study for the last one after I join up. I have 10 GCSEs and 280 UCAS points.

The academic requirements for an officer don't specify the need for a degree, but I know a lot of YOs will have them.

So basically should I stick it out and complete the degree then join direct graduate entry or try and enter now and complete it later?

To be frank, university is teaching me nothing and I spoke better Spanish before I came, only difference is now I have a massive outstanding loan.

Cheers, all thoughts welcomed.

Best,

JS

Hello JSF.

Personally, I would stick with it for the remainder of the course and take direct entry. It is worth having your degree just incase anything happens, ie you get injured or decide the military isnt for you. It will also help you get onto Officer training. A lot of lads seem to be going from University into CTC due to the current job climate.

Best of Luck,

Amphibian

Finish your degree, your chances of employment are better and you also have enhanced promotion after you pass out from CTC (unless things have changed).

I'd be asking myself questions like:
-What do I really want to do?
-Why did I start this uni course? What will I get out of it?
-Is RM a new interest/option or have you been interested in it a long time? (if so, why Spanish at uni...?)
