Weapon Tampering in Armed Forces

Hey Guys,

I was talking to a friend of my brothers who is a rm ( believe he said he was involved in reconnaissance ) and after a while we began to talk about gear more specifically the sa80. This was when he told me that when he was on tour the pistol grip on his sa80 was giving him blisters and he paid an armourer a few bob to swap out the pistol grip for an american saw pistol grip ( which apparently fits ) until the end of his tour.

Now whilst I'm not in the armed forces I was under the impression that this kind of fiddling was practically forbidden and considered ramboish

Is this the sort of thing which is down to the person or am I correct in assuming that this is simply a lie?

I know it used to go on and I would assume it still does, everyone wants to make sure they've got their kit just right.

Its not good form to mess with your weapon I think that its a chargable offence.

If the armourer has done the work for you then it is down to him, you have not done it
