Eye-sight Requirments

Post by irish_lad92 »

Hi,

Im interested in joining the British army as an infrantry soldier...I'm interested in joining the Royal Irish Regiment.
So i was wondering what the eye-sight demand was,my current eye sight is -2.00 and would like someone to post it in that form instead of the 20/20 stuff so i am able to understand it better.

Also are there any other requirments i will need except for the barb test, interviews and training.

Thanks ;)

forgot to mention given the chance i would like to continue on as a heavy gunner or a sniper.

Look in"Search"
If you cannot find what you need then ask again.
We seem to be answering the same questions over and over.
I understand it's important to you but you have to realise that we get this kind of question a lot.
Having a look will show initiative which is a requirement for the armed forces.
Have you had a skeg through the British Army website?
I'm not trying to give you a hard time bud,not at all but the reason the"Search"button is there is so you can get results from other people's joining experience and take what you need from their advise.

(Note to self)..........It may have been easier for me to just answer

hi yes i do understand this and have done so...i had looked on the british army website previous and could only find the eye sight requirments for a pilot,I have also just searched this fourm as you suggested and i am finding alot of different answers from many of the members and was wondering which is right, ive read that you can wear contacts if your eye-sight can be correct by those and glasses.I have also read it can be about 6/6,or 6/12,plus i have read that with some regiments you may not wear your glasses if doing drills. Was wondering if anyone serving in the royal irish would know that answer to this.I also apologise for asking a repeat of this question as i understand you may be very frustrated by this

Thanks :)

No need to apologise bud,
I understand how difficult eye tests can be to understand.
My last produced a result of 20/25 with a possibility of future Glaucoma which apparently is good for my age.
I'm not being condescending but have you looked for the Royal Irish website?
I am a little surprised that you only found eyesight requirements for a pilot in the AAC.
I was not Army and I'm not what you would call up to date.
However, there are members?(don't start you lot)who when they have a looksee may offer some more up to date intel.

There is another site you could try,
ARRSE.Many there are serving and mostly Army.

I hope this helps.
