Medical discharge from basic training
Medical discharge from basic training
Hi my husband broke his neck of femur in week 12 of basic training (just 2 tests off passing out) after a fellow recruit pushed him down some steps and he fell badly. For 3 weeks he continued being told by physios he had damaged ?ligaments then?muscles untill they MRI'd it and found it to be broken he even did a 5 mile tab on his broken hip before he collapsed. After he faught his way back to fitness in 8 weeks he has pushed himself and torn a muscle in his hip. Because it is going to take a further 3 months to heal and they don't want to create irreversable damage he is being medically discharged and has been told it will be a minimum recomendation of 12 months before he can reapply. It has taken him 3 attempts to successfully get into basic and he is only 14 months away from max age restriction. All his reports have been outstanding and being in the Army is all he has ever wanted to do. What are the possibilities of him being accepted back into basic training? Is there any kind of appeals process?
Re: Medical discharge from basic training
He could always sue the chap for pushing him down the stairs, and also tack on to that poor medical care, they then might think it would be cheaper to keep him.
Re: Medical discharge from basic training
After 5 months of not a lot of information my husband is sill waiting. We had a copy of the medical boards report which was utter rubbish and contradicted it's self several times. It even gave the date of his MRI results before he'd even had his MRI (I wish I had their crystal ball for the lottery). He has still not recieved a letter regarding his discharge or the external doctors findings and no-one at the training barracks knows whats going on. The stand in Discharge Clerk thinks she's got a rough date of discharge based on his dates but still nothing concrete. Anyone else had this sort of trouble. Some of the others he was sent home with have had letters and dates.
