Intell Corps

Hi, I am looking at joining the Intelligence Corps -but i am most interested in joining the Human Intelligence side. I'm not that keen on having to be an OPMI for 2 years to get there though
I think what worries me about an Operator for Military Intelligence is that there is hardly any info available on what is on the 27 week course available. Recruiters don't provide much really and the brochures are far too short and vague and only glamourise it, instead of telling you what the hard bits are going to be. Nothing is mentioned about how many exams will be taken, what the drop out rate is, etc.

The Intelligence Corps brochure only provides a tiny (and i mean tiny) paragraph of what Operational Intelligence and Counter Intelligence involve. It also does not tell the reader anything about what you will actually be physically doing in your day to day job at all.

So I was just wondering if anyone is in the Intell Corps and whether they could tell me a little more about what it is you do in your 1st 2 years as OPMI? Thanks

Just a heads up mate, but it's actually the Int Corps.
That aside, I'm RAF so I haven't a clue, sorry!
Your best bet is to go into the AFCO and speak to somebody.

I think what worries me about an Operator for Military Intelligence is that there is hardly any info available on what is on the 27 week course available.

That's coz it's all Secret Squirrel stuff.... (Actually it would bore the shit out of you if you knew the course content in advance.... Memorise orbats for friendly forces, memorise orbats for enemy forces, research this, present that, analyse the other...)
BTW, I don't think there's a way of avoiding the 2 year stint as OPMI first. Perhaps if you're colloquially fluent in several languages (other than your standard german, french or spanish) you may stand a chance... but then the sneaky beaky's at MI5/MI6 would probably be interested in you too.... And you'd get a better shot at getting directly into 'HUMINT' via that route.....

So I was just wondering if anyone is in the Intell Corps and whether they could tell me a little more about what it is you do in your 1st 2 years as OPMI?

From what I remember (based on several postings to Div HQs where the green slime grew and flourished) they specialised in glueing maps together (the bigger and more cumbersome the better), colouring in maps, colouring in map overlays with nonsensical 'threat avenues', endlessly sticking then unsticking 'stickies' onto said overlays to show positions of units (friendly and enemy), running around like madmen preparing briefs for the young thrusting SO3 G2 so he can show off his presentation skills on 'The Threat' to the General...... and playing Solitaire on the computer....

You will also learn to big yourself up, and tell tall tales that unfortunatly one person in the classroom knows to be total bollocks, add that to a fantastic ability to be utter cocks and you have the makings of a perfect Int Corps Soldier.

Mine WAS a proper answer...... It REALLY would bore the shit out of you if you knew the course content in advance....

And there is a hell of a lot of "memorise orbats for friendly forces, memorise orbats for enemy forces, research this, present that, analyse the other..." involved.... Still, I only spent a few years mixing with the slime in G2 Cells at Div HQs, I wasn't actually one of 'them' so perhaps it is jealousy? I was Engr Int so perhaps it was superiority!?
