Military swords at funerals

Post by markf »

My father-in-law has recently died and has requested that his grandson carry his sword behind the coffin. He was a major in the Coldstream Guards and I am keen that the sword is carried properly. Can anyone help me with what is the right thing to do? Many thanks in advance

I would have thought that if the person carrying the sword was civilian and not in uniform then it would be carried in its scabbard in a horizontal position. The best thing you can do is to drop an e mail to the Guards Museum and ask them for advice
