before i went in a had what is known as a sports hernia (a.k.a gilmores groin). it kept me out for nearly a year and a half. it was one of those reoccuring injuries that kept popping up. fortunately for me it didnt require surgery as it was deemed by the physio that it could be sorted via physio (they have a test to determine if surgery is required). however, that said i sometimes wish id of had the surgery as a mate in the RAF Regt had something siimilar and he was operated on and seemed to be on his feet and out running straight away!

haha if only!
No, in my case i was fortunate with my particular injury to have it sorted with lots of rest and gradual physio - no op required. But then a different kind of hernia! Id imagine with the classic 'hernia', surgery is inevitable. My point is that make sure you are properly diagnosed by a quack who will come up with a neccessary plan of rehab.
