How far do you run?? dont just go for a 1.5 miler because thats what u do at ADSC run at least 3 miles, dont try and blast it out, gradually build it up. To help stamina try sprinting for 60 seconds rest for 60 seconds then repeat 10 times. Otherwise just keep running mate.

you need to be running over 40 minutes each time to see any improvement, stretch your body a little more.
If you stay where your body is comfortable you will not improve.
Dont go mad with your training but at least push yourself a little.

cheers for the replies! i have only been running 20-30 minutes each time at steady paces. I am just really worrying that the running side of things will let me down in my selection. And also i have a fitness day and look at life both in september and i really dont want to be left behind.

I try to run every day now as Selection is in 2 weeks.

My best time was 9 mins 15 secs ... I'm joining the Army as a Musician.

If I keep up this time and improve on it more...will it be enough to pass on the day?

Thanks, William

my "top tip" is to attack a few hills. Really power yourself up them and jog back down steadily to get your breath back. Then power back up again. Just do repetitions up and down improving on the number every run. This will improve your cv and recovery time. Plus, when you run on the flat, it will feel easy (ish).

As said before - push your body. get out of the comfort zone.

good luck

Get some lunatic to chase you with an axe, I think you will find that your times will improve. I always remember being chased through the streets of Algiers after being caught humping a café owners daughter and he had a bloody great meat clever.

Ha ha.
Another tip is to stuff some bog paper up your arse and light the other end. You will shift then.

Probably better advice than "change your diet". might as well have said "do some phys"

keep working hard at it.

WHAT i normally do is put the treadmill on full whack then get a mate to put a pie or maybe a nice cake in front of it, it works wonders at helping me get less rotund.....

I'm so bad at running ... but I'm trying my hardest to improve. Thing is, I hate running on the treadmill though ... I much prefer the great outdoors, especially a run first thing in the morning.
I can cycle for days, and swim for hours, but make me run, and I'm nackered after 10 minutes :o

I might try evanescence actually ... thanks for the tip. I have been listening to house/trance music (which I actually dislike) but the beat keeps me going. Got some manic drum n bass/garage stuff ... it was a disaster to say the least! :x
