after selection how do they decide which regiment you are assigned to? is it done on the principle of location? or which regiment needs people most?

What Regiment do want....You can state this when you sign on

Pick a Corps, it gives you more options. Then choose 3 job roles you would like to do and then as you get more information through phase one decide what Regiment and role.
