Track

Post by partymarty1987 »

Today i went to a track and done my 1.5 mile run.....or at least tried. A few weeks ago i timed my 1.5 mile time at 9.20 on a stretch path which i measured on google earth. My dad was the one who told me to go on a track and time it just to make sure.

So i done 2 laps warm up, had a quick breather and reset my watch and bang i was off. I was aiming for 3 minute per 2 laps (as its 6 laps for 1.5 mile) so i could get near enough 9 minute's for the time. Anyway i got up to my 4th lap (1 mile mark) looked at my watch and it was 6.20 and i just stopped. I though f*ck this, i was starting to get abit tired because i burnt myself out on the first lap and was sick of running around this bloody track.

I no im a reasonbly fit lad and enjoy running along roads (even though it does get boring sometimes) but has anybody else ever had problems running around a track?

It's that pain barrier you will be expected to go through time and time again. Next time don't stop keep going as this is what you will have to do in training

Cheers mate, im just probly making excuses for myself. Im just worried because i've got my selection up at Glencorse on the 18th. Ive got a pre ADSC fitness thing on the 13th where im racing against other lads so i should hopefully get a decent time there. I'll make sure i do it on the day.

If I was you mate, i'd incorporate a hill somewhere in your 1.5 mile route, preferably at the end and make it up hill! The route in Catterick is not round a running track! But it is a good start, and will get you used to running the distance :D

I've been running 5 and 6 milers the past 3 days, doing abit of fartlek training and stuff. I dont no if it was because i needed a rest why i just got the the mile point and packed it in... The normal 1.5 mile route i go on is up hill for the half mile.

All i run now is 5 miler's minimum everyday and starting to have every 4th day off. I wanted my 1.5 mile down to 9 minutes before i went to selection and i just cant seem to shed the seconds off. The best change ive seen is 9.34 to 9.20. i havent got a clue what else to do to get it down? It seems like im getting better at running further distances but staying the same at pushing this 1.5 mile out. I ran 5 mile in 40 minutes yesterday and could probly shade a minute off that.

Should i just try and run 2milers as fast as i can or something?

mate, what i do is to find a football pitch on the common and sprint the sides of the pitch and jog the ends of the pitch. This brought my 1.5 mile run time down dramatically. Do 10 laps of the pitch. You should see an improvement straight away.

haha mate, you'll be feeling it around the 6-7th lap. It is hard stuff, but definitley worth it. Time yourself as well. Then each time you do it, try and beat your last time. Good stuff mate

Fazza how dramatically did your 1.5m time drop after those football sprints and how often did you do this. I will also try if I can survive it!

i was feeling confident until i stopped at the mile point lol I think in all honesty i just needed a days rest and i burnt myself out on the first lap. I think when it comes to it mate, i should do it. Full of adrenaline and racing against other lads :) i feel more confident that we dont run it on a track aswell at selection.

How you feeling about it? are your times good or you in the same boat as me?

just_me - I did these twice a week and took off 30 seconds of my run time. that was over 1 month. Plus i was doing longer distances as well on other days. Now i do them once a week. They definitely help mate. When you do them i would like to know what you thought of it.

My run time is 8.27. It was 10.45 4 months ago, but i have been doing a training programme which has helped a lot. Just can't wait to start basic training.

How long did the whole excercise usually take you mate? Am looking for somewhere to slot it in.
Thanks for your help.

well, it depends on the size of footie pitch you are training on. The footie pitch i train on is 10 meters shorter than a full size pitch. My best time is 11.46. When i started it i was hitting 12.30, but now the time has come down big time.
