MFAT filtered all this out. It's not even in the joining section.

hey mate
heeves = no set amount of heeves its not a pass or fail its just to see what your strenth is like

there are no push ups or sit ups at selection

run time = para's 9:40, infantry 12:45 all others 13:15 16 and 17 year olds have 14:30

plus 3 group/team excercises plus a granade challange and a full medical and your sure that out of 40 ppl atleast 10 will be sent home coz they didnt pass the medical

Hello...

Yes I heard that the heaves were a 'best effort'. I have my selection in about 3-4 weeks time...I wondered about the running tiem heard so many different times!

I'm 17...joining the Corps of Army Music I am running around 11 mins 30 secs...maybe 11 mins. Would that be ok? thanks for any help!

11-1130 is ok however its a case of BEST EFFORT on the day, if you are caught cruising round or not putting the effort in it will be marked down!

yeah I understand, it's ok 2 slow down a little but you fail when you stop? or as you say...show that your not putting in the effort.

thanks for the reply :)

The run isn't too bad, nice little circuit and finishes on a level straight....it's the PT session the evening before that will test your resolve as you will be pushed...hard!

As for the run time, you can't time yourself on the day so try and come first and adjust your speed accordingly. It's not going to last much longer than 12 mins (unlike the PT session) and make sure you finish with a sprint as Officers are watching on.

It's harder than you would think, but just give everything your all and do what you are told. Even the grenade throw and team tasks work you hard so just be prepared to dig deep.

I think I'm the only one here who didn't have the grenade throw thing. I saw it on the DVD but all we had was the 10 question test thing. We didn't get a PT lesson when we were there either, only made to do a bunch of press-ups straight after the run but that was only becasue some silly feckers couldn't keep their mouths shut on the way back.
Remember with the run not to start out too hard. One guy on ours didn't even make it half way because he started too fast and they failed him. Save something for the final push!

I was deferred from Pirbright for having aslight bit of acne on my chest/shoulders...

Does anyone actually know WHY this is a reason to stop someone from getting into the Army...???

Imagine carrying a weighted pack in the desert, with sand being rubbed into your shoulders by the straps in a high heat. It will quickly become infected and sore reducing your ability to carry weight. So what might seem like a simple thing can have implications when you look at it from other angles.
