II Squadron RAF Regiment

Post by mr_man_2168 »

Hi folks,

Hopefully these questions aren't too silly, I've had a bit of a poke about on the RAF website, etc ut can't find much info on training/selection for II Squadron.

What are the various stages involved from applying to the squadron through to getting your wings? I know of people who have been streamed onto II squadron straight off TG, presumably they have to display the required fitness level, etc on TG to go straight to II Sqn? lets say a Gunner gets posted to a normal field sqn, how would he go about getting onto II Sqn and what tests/asessments, etc are involved?

Just curious really!

I imagine it would be a case of expressing your interest through your flight commander. Then if the powers that be believe you display the type of mentality, skills, fitness etc that the II Sqn recruits and gunners do, you would be nominated for a move to the sqn. Then on to pre - para.

Obviously i dont know for sure, but I imagine it would be something like this.
"It is easier and more effective to destroy the enemy's aerial power by destroying his nests and eggs on the ground than to hunt his flying birds in the air." - General Giulio Douhet

Ho-hum, 'scuse my ignorance, I've only recently started poking around the RAF and Army bits and learning a few bits and pieces - what is II Sqn and their role? I'm hazarding a guess at part of RAF Regt from the Gunners reference, but beyond that...? Stab in the dark at the SFSG sqn?

More or less what Fordy said, the Airborne branch of the RAF Regiment. You're also right, it's II Squadron that provide the RAF Regiment flight in SFSG.

It would have helped if you'd posted in English! That looks like a combination Nokia speak and 7 yr old!

Obviously applying the principle of "Minimum Effort"
"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."

That's the second new thing I've learnt on here today, cheers, even if it did take a minute or two to work out that 'parasuit' was in fact 'parachute' Satisfied my curiousity at least.

Fordy, to keep it polite, there is a Sticky in the General Discussion section covering spelling and grammar. We don't ask for it to be perfect, just for a little effort to be put in so it's legible - that last post was definitely not

Drop the attitude and write in English.
Text speak will not be tolerated on this forum.

Your posts give the impression that either:

a) you're stupid
or
b) you don't even care enough about what you're writing to put the effort into writing it properly.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Back on topic after Fordy's wee tantrum, A helpful soul has sent me an outline of the RAF Reg Pre-para course. If anyone wants to see, drop me a PM and I'll email it over to you. Gives some indication of the standard needed for II Squadron.

II squadron RAF Regt

Post by gtansa »

My understanding is that recruits passing out of basic training are largely assigned to squadrons working up for operational postings and that requests for specific posting may well go unheeded as obviously the priority is to ensure operational squadrons are at full strength.

Basic training consists of a series of flights which are trained by squadron training staff . If the flight you join is being trained by some or all II squadron staff you are likely to have a better chance of joining II sqaudron.....If you pass the parachute training after basic training !!
