How far away am I?

Post by jay1986 »

Hello all

As the title suggests, I am wondering how close I actually am to joining the paras. I've applied at my local recruitement office (brighton) where I completed my literacy and numeracy tests- but was told there would be no kind of fitness test because they didnt have the facilities??

I was sent away with medical forms for my quack to sign and send off, but due to a old injury, my doctor will not sign me off until a up-and-coming scan comes through (the injury is long gone).

Once these medical forms are sent off, what are the next stages and how long are they likely to take? Have i much chances of joining this year?
My fitness is good, dispite not actually timing myself. I train 3 times a day for around 1-1.5 hours a time, whether that be running, running with weight, weight sessions, swimming or cycling.

Any help would be much appreciated

Alrite mate ,
Woudn't think theres much chance in your joining this year probably early january at the earliest and as for training 3 times a day :o I'd drop that down a bit if i was you.

Yes i agree on the above 100%. And a little advice, if you ARE running with weight i wouldn't bother becuase it easily causes injury. Definately try to mix your training around as much as you can. Fartlek and Interval are brilliant, anyway :)..
Good luck pal!

Thanks for your time fellas

Was affraid I wouldn't be going til next year- be 23 then (getting old :P) Am I right in thinking that after my medical is sent and authorised, I then go onto ADSC, inwhich I undertake small physical test like the 1.5 miler, sit-ups etc?

When I was speaking with the recruitment bloke he said something about them not having the resources for me to a do a physical and I would need to ring him when my 1.5 mile times were around 9 minutes- Did i get the wrong end of the stick here-surely all future applicants need to do the ADSC?

You telling me to cut my training down because its over the top or because I'm likely to f@#k myself with a injury at that rate- and as for running with weight, I learnt the hard way! Tabbing with 30kilos for 5.5miles in trainers, on concrete, everyday, taught me to take it easy. I only jog with around 30lbs now-feels great.

Thanks again for your time

I think your recruiter meant they did not have the resources at your AFCO to do a pre-ADSC session as some AFCOs have sessions like this weekly where you will do your 1.5m timed and 2mins sit-ups and press-ups so the Recruiters know when to send you to ADSC.

Thanks for clearing that up just_me

So once my medical forms have been checked and passed I then go to do a ADSC and providing I pass, will then go down to Catterick to start my training? Is there a interview to undertake before heading off to Catterick?

Personally dude i would train twice a day 5 times a week. Mix up you rest days from week to week (if you can). Kepp at it, with a positive mind set on what you really want, can't go wrong there!
Good luck with the future
