RM Series

Post by MM01 »

I'm trying to track down (DVD or VHS) a series I saw in the 80s about the RM Mountain & Arctic Warfare Cadre- problem is a) don't remember what it was called and b) don't remember which channel it was on!
Anyone remember this/ know where I could source it?

It was one of the reasons I joined the Corps. I'm pretty sure that it was called "Behind the Lines" and that it was made by the BBC. I had it on VHS for ages but doubt I'll have it now - it was on the telly again only a few years back.

You could ask on this site:

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the ML's from that programme look in on that site.

It's not the one I was thinking about. The 1980's series was filmed not long after the Falklands (with a good bit on the Top Malo House assault) and was all SLR's and big growler 'tashes.

It was made in 1984/5 and shown on the BBC in late1985 as I can remember two of my squaddies turning to at Gardemoen camp in Norge 1985 during my last Norge deployment. One was the C/Sgt running the course the other was on the course. A few years later they did an update on the series showing what the lads who were in the original series were then doing. I think the latter series was wacked out in the mid 90's.

Little known fact but sometimes 50% of wannerbie ML's were Cloggies as in members of the RNLMC as were some of the training team. Hangfire and I'll have a shufftie and see if I still have the VHS tapes of it, failing that I'll ask me squaddie who was doing the course if he has a copy (I'm sure he has one) he lives a sparrows fart from my location so should have nay wucking forries getting in touch with him.

About six years ago a similar progamme was shown on the Discovery Channel, which is still repeated as far as I'm aware. In all three series the course was run from Stonehouse Barracks where the M & AW Cadre were then based. Might have changed now mind.

I remember watching the the second series of 'Behind the Lines' when there was an update of what people were up to after the first series. People had taken different routes in life....... It was a good watch and I too wish I had seen the first original programmes, if anyone can assist. As far as I remember I saw the second one in 1997. Cheers
