Pre-Joining Fitness Test: 10min 45sec?

Post by PJW89 »

Evening guys,

First post here and just so that it is said I am really hoping to join the RMC.
Was just reading through the entry requirements to join on the Royal Marines homepage and it says that the time for the PJFT is 10 minutes and 45 seconds. Is this new? I was sure that I had read and heard several times that the run had to be completed sub 10 minutes.

I live in Norway, always have, but I am a British/Norwegian dual citizen and I know that that won't be a problem.
When it comes to the fitness I am pushing out around 55 push-ups, 75 sit-ups (both in 2 minutes), only about 3 pull-ups. Working hard to get these up. My running time is approximately 12 minutes, but I had to stop running for a while because of a minor injury I didn't want to risk becoming major, and I know I will have no problem getting the times down again quickly.

Also, could someone tell me approximately what the time frame is from contacting a recruiter/applying to going to the PRMC? And from then on to RC?

Usually with the application if everything goes along fine n dandy it takes about 2-3 months (apply to PRMC). Obviously I dont know though how it differs from overseas applicants. Also I believe the old time for the mile and half on the treadmill was 10mins45secs, now its under 10mins. Dont know about PRMC to RT as I havn't done it yet but plenty of lads on here that have started RT will tell you soon enough.(I think its about a month)

all the best

OK, thanks, Dave.

Just one more question, are you required to do any rope climbing on the PRMC? I am then thinking of vertical rope climbing, straight up. Not a discipline I'm any good at. At all! :-?
Wow, I cannot describe how joining (trying to anyway) the Marines excites me. A dream come true if I succeed :D

As far as I know there is veritical rope climbing, though as long as your upper body strength is decent I don't think it should be a problem.

My AFCO told me that it had to be done in less than 10 mins to pass, but they'd really be looking for a time nearer the 9 min mark to show that you'd really put the effort in.
I've also heard (elsewhere) that a good PJFT time may benefit you at the later stages of selection, although I don't know how true this is.
