Nike + ?

Post by Stokey_14 »

Anyone use the Nike + System? I brought a pair of running shoes today and after trying on about 15-20 different pairs, decided on a pair of Nike running shoes, now I’ve never been a big fan of Nike in the past but I tried these on and they fitted perfectly felt really good on me feet, so I brought them .

Now I’ve got home and taken a closer look and these are 'Nike Plus' compatible, the thing looks like quite a bit of fun, just wondering if anyone on here has ever used it.

For those that don't know, Nike Plus is a piece of kit that plugs into your I Pod and also has a 'chip' in you shoe the clocks how far ,fast ,long you've run amongst other things like calories burnt etc.

Now I'm not a great fan of gadgets when it comes to training... I enjoy old school methods and usually feel much more suited to a smelly boxing gym or hitting a tractor tire with a sledge hammer in my back garden :P but I think I might give this a whiz and have some fun getting the extra miles in while I’m at it.

Basically looking for any reasons not to buy it if there is any...

All the best

I've got a pair and they've been fine. They are slightly gimmicky though, and the novelty seems to wear off pretty quick. You'll probably find yourself wanting to run without a gadget, that's what your other trainers are for.

There's better runner's out there, but you won't be dissappointed with them. I've always found Nike's to be pretty near invincible to.

Anyone get any recommendations for Nike+ compatible trainers?

I've got a pair of Nike+ trainers, there're magic. Yeah I don't really go for the gadget thing either, I could borrow my brothers iPod nano but would have to my the reciever thing and don't really go with listen to muisc and run kind of thing. How much is the reciever?

Stokey, what this hit-the-tractor-wheel-with-a-sledge workout about? Sounds interesting!

As I said I’ve never really liked Nike to much, always saw them as a ‘fashion brand’ but I tried them on and well…they felt great, good arch support, springy, tight and light, thought to my self if the shoe fits wear it. :P (I know that was cheesy!)

I brought them as a trainer in the first place, I try various brands and designs on and these seemed to fit my feet perfectly... wouldn't have brought them other wise, Just wondered if it was worth buy the add on pack thing.

Not sure, might have to see how much I can pick it up for and if its a decent price go for it.

I've got my running spikes for the track in the summer, my old Sauconys for cross country (use them as a rough pair now) these where more for road running and gym work, seen as though I'll be clocking up a fair few miles leading up to my track session plus my old shoes where fairly knackered so it was about time I re-new.

One other thing is I take it you can take the Nike ‘chip’ in and out? Say I want to run with out it in I can just remove it right? :-?

Still undecided on the Nike plus though :-?

Aye it is... check out this link :P

Brutal work out but really helps with explosiveness and a strong core (mainly use it to help with boxing... fun as well)

I love my ipod. got it in florida last september.. also got seriously discounted nike air span +4 to go with it..

the sports attatchment/receiver is £20 apple.uk.. p n p takes it to nearer 25 though...

try ebay.. they have show adaptors .. basically a wee bag with velcro to fasten round your laces for the transmitter thingy...

nike + sends a message to your ipod telling you distance/calories burned etc on your own specific runs you can load up from nike +.com..

its great.. higly recommended..

just load ypour ipod up with the complete rocky soundtrack and go for it!!

I've got the nike + set up mate and I would recommend it!!

I think the ipod costs about £90-£100 and the reciever is about £20

I have asics gel kayano running trainers and what I did was make a little cut in the mesh on my tongue, popped the reciever in and sewed it back up.works fine.

Can't say that I've ever tried removing it, you won't notice it's there. Running without the chip just means running without the attachment really.

I personally would buy a GPS watch which uses satellites for mileage calculations not pedometer-'esk' calculations via leg movement. When researching the product for my own personal training I was told to go with a GPS system for running mileage.

I need precise distance for my training endeavors and heard that the Nike+ tended to “be off” on occasion by 1/4miles-1/2 miles.

But if these exact readings aren’t really necessary, the Nike + has wicked options for ipods which enhance training enjoyment….so I guess it comes down to preference and necessity.
