The continent is called America (North America anyway), but the country is called the United States of America. America is just a shortened term, and anyone saying 'America' would obviouly be meaning the United States. In the same way, Great Britain is the collective islands of Britain while the United Kingdom is the political community. Technically, there is no country as 'Great Britain' although many people use GB meaning the UK.Stinky wrote:Would they be correct in thinking that their country starts with a U for united states or would they be wrong because the country is called America? I know united starts with a U but the country isn't called United States of America, it's just America isn't it? Because United States just mean the states are united. I don't know.
