Hi,
My names Steve and I'm a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy. I've served 4 1/2 years and about 4 months ago I put in to transfer to the Parachute Regiment, I've been accepted and I'm waiting for my release paper work to go through at the minute so I can start the joining process.
I've been giving a load of booklets and DVD-Roms with examples of training programs but want to find out from anyone who has been in training recently whats the best kind of training to do to get myself as prepared as possible, also any other information you think would be useful would be great too. I've been told I will start basic training in March at the latest.
Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm not a Paratrooper but I have been to Catterick so have a good idea of what the initial training is like and in my opinion the best type of training you can do to prepare yourself for basic training is circuit training and lots of running. These will make up a large portion of the phys that you will be doing during the course so it makes sense to get used to them before you arrive.
Try incorporating both long runs for endurance and some sprint training, especially some hill sprints, too. It'd also be beneficial if you include some swimming too as this will do wonders for increasing your lung capacity.
I'm sure there should be circuit classes run by the Navy PTI's that you could join? But I'm sure if there is you'll already know about them.
As for specific training programmes there's plenty on here you can try out, just do a search and you will find some really good ones.
Sounds like you have plenty of time to get yourself in good shape, so good luck mate and all the best.

You should have a look at the Parachute Regiment part of this forum Jolly_Jack. The programme on the web page is good too http://www.army.mod.uk/para/recruitment.htm (click on suggested training programme)
There are more ideas on http://www.militaryforums.co.uk/forums/ in the Parachute Regiment part of that.
Personally I would do lots of running, long and short distances, with and without hills. And upper body stuff, press up's, sit up's and pull up's. That's all we did when I was there fitness wise. Tabbing and running round like a lunatic in the field, you can't really train for!
