Thanks
bird.
I've not posted the diary as I don't want to just duplicate what I've read in others, as a lot of what I read was fairly accurate!
In brief though for anyone who's interested:
Gym test 1
Over quite quickly, pressups/situps is just 2 minutes of effort at something you should already be quite good at, and same for pull ups except that the bar is not easy to grip and gets slippery!
I slipped off knowing I had loads more pull ups in me.
High obstacles
Tarzan slide is great fun, but do exactly what you're told; about a third of our group got pressups for doing it wrong.
The ropes and other parts of it were good fun and over quickly. What you have to do requires effort but is not complicated so just don't think about falling.
(They're not asking you to fall off anyway so don't!)
Assault course
Hard work but this I enjoyed most of all. Again do each obstacle the way they tell you to. The hardest part is probably sprinting up the hill to the second half of it!
Whilst training for your PRMC get some practice on monkey bars and climbing over 6 foot walls (during your runs). I did and it really helped.
Determination
I've read so many different opinions on this. Remember guys this is a public forum and
they know what we think we know about it!
Yes this is a hard test and we had a couple of people drop out. I think the best preparation is just to switch everything else off and just do what you're told, by this point we should all be used to doing some training outside of the comfort zone and this is more of the same.
It helps if you're good at your squat thrusts though
Gym test 2
Intersting and enjoyable (you do several short stances that are like mini-assault courses) and probably the most exhausting purely because of everything you've been through so far.
It's like an indoor determination test in some respects. Lots of sprinting at the end, I think the idea was to see if people wanted to give up but no one did.
I really enjoyed the PRMC and found most of the activities enjoyable, which reassured me that I'm making the right choice. I didn't have any moments of "
why am I doing this?" or "
what's the point?" ... but others did ...
Before Gym test 2 I was not sure if I was going to pass but had made up my mind that I'd (a) do my best anyway and (b) definately try again.
One lad who failed the run stayed on to the end of the course and I think he passed everything else...respect to him for taking it on the chin and carrying on with such effort!
Finally I would say remember that you're spending a few days in a different environment with people you don't know.
Think about this and prepare for it. The others on your course are probably feeling the same and just want to do well too.
PRMC is not the worst thing that could ever happen to you!
