Right quick question for anyone who's online :
I have two pins in my right knee from when i smashed it four years ago.
I have been training on it all year running distances form 1-5 miles and squatting heavy weights and do not have any pain in it and it does not prevent me from doing anything - it is 100%.
On the Army website it says that metal fixation is not allowed.
I just spoke to someone on the helpline and he said that these rules change all the time, he said if it's 100% then he doesn't see a problem, he said to get a army check medical from my local GP and take it from there.
So if my GP says it's fine then does that mean I'm clear?
Anyone else been in the same situation ?

From what I've heard, they dont allow metal in you. I was told of a story that a guy who was at Sandhurst got to week four and then his doctor told him that he had a metal pin in his ankle, because when he was younger he had some sort of metal brace. As they they took it off one of the pins snapped and they couldn't get some of the metal out so they left it in. Once the army heard about this he was instantly discharged and was absolutely gutted. I have only been told this so DO NOT take my word for it and best of luck to you and I hope you do pass the army medical.
So do I... When I spoke to the officer on the phone he said that these are just guidelines and can be broken. My uncle was a major in the Paras, when he joined he had no metal though through his service he obtained 4 pins in both knees. So basically he said that if they allow people to stay in when they have metal put in then why should they stop people wanting to join who have metal and are 100% ?

When I joined (many moons ago), one of the lads in my squad had more metal in him than Steve Austin (due to a car accident I believe).
I've no idea of the current policy regarding this, but would take any answers you get here with a pinch of salt. Ask at your ACIO, then you'll know for certain.

Well to hear that someone was allowed in with metal is certainly encouraging so thanks for the reply. I've requested the relevent forms from the AFCO so I should get them soon and take it from there, fingers crossed !
