Orthotics whilst training and PRMC??

Just got my orthotics, fingers crossed no more shin splints, but what are the rules during training and PRMC, are you allowed to use them?
Any advice etc. would be great

I would have thought it would be ok. Lot's of lad's had sorbothanes when I was in training (16 years ago) and I can't see any difference with specially made orthotics.

I have no idea mate, I know some orthotics can cost about £150 upwards. I'm no professional so can't really say one way or the other.

The ones that I got cost me £250 but they certainly did the trick. Ones you buy off the shelf will not have the same effect.

You are allowed to wear them on your PRMC, just don't mention them.

In training we were told that we were NOT allowed to wear them as they were not issued kit and would have to be agreed upon. Thats not to say that I didnt wear them anyway

I'm sure you'll get them a lot cheaper, just remember you might be paying for quality too and incase you lose them you could be entitled to a new pair (like I did).

In the end I had one pair fitted inside my Hi-tecs and one pair in my boots.

Alright JCAP3, how long was it before you noticed the difference your orthotics were making and how long did it take for them to fully get rid of your problem? Did you have back pain/shins etc? Mine don't seem to be making much of a difference at all.

Can any of you guys recommend the sort of insoles to get for combat boots? I've got my PRMC soon and am thinking it would be better to have a pair of insoles and not need them than need them and not have them!

Would like to know about proper ones as well as the sort you can buy in Boots / other High Street shops.

Personally, I bought a cheap pair of sorbothane ones at Blacks for a fiver, and they're not bad at all.

Mine were £260. If you get on with a £15 pair of insoles then fantastic, but they aren't the real deal.

Don't expect the problems to disappear immediately. My shinsplints/knee problems remained for about 1 month after I started using them - although I had to return to have an extra cm put onto the heel which seemed to work wonders. Take 2 weeks off from running to get used to wearing your ortotics and then begin running.

After this time period, if you still don't see any improvement then return to your podiatrist and try a few adjustments to the othotics (1 cm increase in the heel etc etc). If you have not already done so, replace your trainers. I'd recommend asking about what trainers would be best suited to your feet & which also incorporates the orthotics, though these will be expensive.

Find a place that specialises in trainers or where the are professionally fitted, not JJB etc.

I'd also recommend searching for for the old "shin splints cure" that is somewhere in this forum.

In the end I returned to the podiatrist once. I'd sometimes get shinsplints again but that would mean my trainers were getting old (4 months old). After buying a new decent pair the problems would cease to exist are a few days.

Reference the superfeet green insoles. Most UK shops are selling them for around 35 notes..
Have a look on ebay at the international shops and you can get them shipped from America for approx. $46 which is 20 odd quid.

Just a little saving for you.
