Physical Training Instructor
I was also wondering the same thing, having done the Royal Marines POC I am no longer sure the marines is right for me. Being a TI in the RAF seems quite appealing however as you have said I haven't a clue about the entry requirements. I am reasonably fit doing triathlons road runs bike races etc fairly regularly as well as playing football for a team. I'm not sure how to go abut anything though. Sorry to hijack thread

From what I gather (and this is through talking to others NOT my own experience) the things to focus on are
1-Being able to demonstrate 3 good swimming techniques, normally front crawl, breaststroke and back stroke I think.
2- Running, you will be expected to do the 1.5 miler in about 10:30 as a max, again don't quote me on this but if you want to be a PTI I would personally think you should be aiming for about 9 mins anyway.
3- Being able to coach other people, after all that is going to be your job.
Probably not much use but hopefully some?

Sounds pretty good. I am able to swim breast stroke and front crawl fairly competantly I will have to teach myself backstroke. 1.5miles I can bang out in 8.30 fairly comfortably and I am qualified in Fitness instructing however haven't had any 'proper' coaching experience. I phoned up the careers line yesterday he told me pti is the second most applied for position in the air force and not amny people get it. Is this true?

Again mate I have never applied myself but I hear it is pretty popular.
But by the sounds of you are are one fit bas***d! So you should have no problems!
And I think backstroke is pretty easy to learn anyway.
Although I am certainly not an authority on it they often mention that it is 'the most popular career' and I think it is partly to test if you really want to do it.
Oh and as for the 'coaching experience' I dont think you have to have any, being a fitness instructor should mean you have the skills anyway
One of my mates applied and is starting basic a Halton next week so it obviously is still possible to do it!
Mind if I ask why you think Marines may not be for you? Only I am thinking of applying for next september's intake?

Well I'm not yet sure mate. I have wanted to do the marines since i was a kid but i went to POC and it was a real eye opener I never aprreciated how elite the marines were. It is still something I may want to do but I am going to have to have a long think about it as whatever I do it is going to be something i need to be mega commited too. If you have any questions give me a shout though mate.

it is something i got to think about whatever i do I am not going to be successful until im confident it is what i want to do and can commit 100% to it. Another POC is out of the question at the moment as i do not have the neccesary skills to be an officer at the moment if i go royal it will be non commissioned. But i will have to think alot
Hey guys i have been to the selection stage. this is a piece of cake compared to the PROMC traning. my boss got thruogh that and another friend is goin through the RMC training course.
the ' preffered' standard is:
a sub 10 min mile and half
a level 12 bleep test
60 pressups and sit ups in a minute
swimming is very strict on technique all 3 strokes must be GOOD
being able to climb is an advantage
and coaching skills are of benefit
if anyone wants to msg/email me i can give you some more specific/indepth info.

unfortunatly i fuked my calf up when i did the bleep test so im back to it in october for a second shot. be prepered to get knnocked back. they often knock u back first time round.
