70 Press ups and 70 sit ups
70 Press ups and 70 sit ups
In know ive done loads of posts on this sort of thing but bare with me. When I visted my ACIO about a month back I remember him telling me that I needed to be able to do 70 press ups and 70 situps even before I should go back to start the application process. I think 70 of both is a bit high just to get to Catterick. If that is the deal then fair enough or are they trying to steer me away from the regmient?

To be honest mate you don't really need to be able to do loads of press ups before you arrive, obviously it helps but then that's just stating the obvious. It's quite normal for guys at the AFCO to try to discourage lads from joining the Paras, especially if you don't "look the type" just take no notice and go for it, you won't regret it.
I wouldn't bother training for "how many press ups in two min" as it won't really prepare you for what you will be doing at Depot.
You're much better off training for stamina as it's not often you have to knock out X amount of press ups in so many min but usually just doing pressups to a timing of "bend, stretch, bend, stretch etc...."
Make sure to use good form making sure you use a full range of motion ie; make sure your chest hits the floor and then lock out at the top of the movement. Also try holding at the half way down position for say 10 seconds or so at some point during each set increasing the length of time and frequency as you get stronger.
If you focus on quality rather than quantity you will find it much more beneficial.

when i left school at 16 i went into the AFCO and asked about the marines, some very overweight navy fella was saying to me you should go navy not marines and saying i don't "look" the type, and if i was to go for prmc i should be running atleast 6 miles every day, swimming daily and circuit training and easily doubling the maximum scores needed for situps/pressups.
"You all look like a bag of sh*t!"
But will the ACIO even start my application if i cant do 70 of each? I bet he will ask me when I go back at the end of my college corse.Alfa wrote:To be honest mate you don't really need to be able to do loads of press ups before you arrive, obviously it helps but then that's just stating the obvious. He should start your application, or else you could complain. There is no set amount of press-ups that you need to do in order to join the paras (there wasn’t when I joined)
Your AFCO recruiter sounds like a tw*t, just apply, bang out press-ups, but don’t worry too much about them (unless you can do only 5)
This is off the para website:

Thanks alot mate ive been to the Parachute Regiment site and saved that page and will have to ring up if the next time I go he wont start my application or something. I knew there was something dodgy about him when I went becuase he didnt even know awnsers to most of the questions I was asking like about P-Coy, in the end I got the info of the Para website but that annoyed me.

There is absolutely no requirement for any amount of press ups to start your application, you don't even do them at ADSC or whatever it's called now.
As said he's definately pissing you about, if it continues do as suggested and get in touch with the Para Reg recruitment team, next time you go in try and see someone else instead of him.

I'd agree with what the other guys have said, when i said i wanted to join the Paras. All the guys at the AFCO tried to steer me away from it, saying you don't seem the type or that i should go for their regiment (Signals... not quite the same). But when I said; No. That's what i want to do, they sorted it for me.
The funniest thing about it all was that the WOW2 Officer I saw was Para and he basically said, right when can you do selection... I'll get you sorted right away!!
Show a bit of determination and say that's what you want to do and that's where you'll go.
Off to Catterick 15th of next month... can't wait!!!
