Navy's stealth submarine will rule the oceans

Congrats 946Trp

Next they will be building farms on subs!If it could find a way of being self-sufficient in food, the submarine, theoretically, could remain submerged for 35 years as its nuclear reactor does not need refuelling and it can produce drinkable water by an onboard desalination plant.
I don't think it's a great idea to say where it is being built though.

Well it's not like it's easy to hide the facilities needed to build a 7,000 ton boat now is it.Stinky wrote:I don't think it's a great idea to say where it is being built though.
I assume you meant for security purposes?
If that is what you mean then once you consider that there is probably only about 2 ship yards in the country capable of building a boat like this it's not hard for anyone with even a slight intrest to track down the shipyard never mind a foreign intelligence service. Given this fact there is no reason to not say where it's being built.
In this country they're defended against attacks from sea and air by our monitoring systems and plans that would be put into place. Like the russian planes spying the other day, detected and dealt with, and they were nowhere near mainland. Land attacks by terrorists and the like is a risk but they'll be guarded, its just as liklely any of the already built ones will be attacked while alongside, yet everyone knows where the Navies ports are. People know where theyre going to be based so why not wait and attack them then?
Theres only so much you can do to protect against attack from within, and its a matter of increasing importance these days, trying to hide that your building a massive nuclear sub however is not really a practical solution. You can't hide our equipment when talking the likes of submarines and ships, they need to come alongside and their they are at risk from attacks from within, you just have to guard them as best you can.
Sorry, I didn't realize there were only so many places that could build such a thing. Still, I am not saying it is even likly to happen, but to me that information is only usfull to one type of person unless they are giving public tours around the sub. But still if it would be so easy to find anyway, why not.

Who would even want to target these subs? an attack on them would offer absolutely no strategic value to any possible foe. Last time I checked CND wasn't a violent insurgent outfit.
