PRMC Delayed! Bugger.

Post by euro_andrew »

Hey guys, After going to another RMAD yesturday and finding that my Shin splints are still really bad and my CV is lacking because I havent been able to run much.

I have delayed my PRMC til next month so that I can train in my new orthotics and start running again.

MY scores were:

3miler: fail
Beeptest: 11
Pushups: 41
situps: 83
Pullups: 7

If I wasnt injured I would be flying through it by now. Im really pissed off.
Just Lie back and think of England.

Bad luck mate, its an irritating problem to say the least.

There is an exercise that was suggested by RGJ-Rifleman

"What you do, is lean against a wall with your back facing the wall. Then simply lift your feet up from the floor so only the backs of your feet are touching the floor. After five minutes of lifting and dropping you will feel it really hurting in your shins, its the muscles strenthening. I did it to a beat of a song (Put your hands up for detroit) I swear to you after a week i could run, pound my feet into the concrete and no problems. Do at least a workout for 5 minutes in the morning and before you go to bed and i have no doubt in my mind this will cure you. " - I'd add that you should raise and lower your feet at a fast rate to add to the exercise. Also after every ten reps turn your feet slightly outwards and then return to starting position.

I still havent been able to get rid of the shin splints using this method but the exercises have reduced the pain significantly (just a dull numb feeling where the pain used to be) - though i have been only doing them once a day.

I have to admit this is a better exercise than the one i previously suggested.

Yeah Ive been seeing a physio. They said its because I have flat feet and that my shin muscle is quite big already. So I have to spend 2 weeks training these orthotics in before I can run again. Then build my self backup to long distances before I can goto PRMC which will be a absolute bitch.

Its a bloody let down. But hey by the time I finally get to PRMC I will be ready both mentally and physically. Id rather pass it first time then go on the 30th and fail.

yeah, the exercise rgj descirbed worked great but i too found it didnt remove the pain completely, i suffered from terrible shin pain. But, by using an inner tube around the ball of my foot i was able to add resistance, and that done the trick. Sit down, raise you leg so that it is straight and parrallel to the floor, place the inner tube around the ball of the foot, pull it so there is resistance, push your foot forwards, but instead of going back and forth, do circles clockwise for 2 mins, and anti-clockwise for 2 mins. Obviously increasing the time as your shins become stronger. Hope this makes sense :) I did find a website with a better explantion, ill find it and post it later.

Yeah, i suffered with terrible pain for over a year and it got to the point where it was painful walking. I had custom orthotics made which relieved the pain but i still couldnt run pain free, it just wasnt as bad. I then had actupuncture which worked wonders, but after about a month they came back. I tried RGJ's method which also works, but i was left with a dull ache whilst running, and i was still concerned that the pain would come back. Then i stumbled across that exercise, its great, i do it in the morning, before bed, before and after running too. My inner tube is definatly coming with me to rt, just incase :) I've tried to find the website i found this on but not having much luck, ill keep searching and ill post it asap.

I'm also a victim of the dreaded "shinsplints". Apparently mine come from an overpronation of the ankle which the podiatrist said wasn't bad but obviously causes pain when i run a lot. I told her about the back against the wall exercise and she said all this does is stretch the calves but you get the burning on your shin so obviously is doing more than just stretching! I have orthotics but there a bitch to run in and i don't think they work that much so iv got a pair of anti pronation trainers that i run in and they do help but sometimes they come back. I just keep stretching and massage the area alot i dont think they will ever truly disappear but hopefully can keep them at bay!!

your scores, were they in one hit, did you do 41 press ups with out a pause, or 30 6 then 5 if you catch my drift? obviously i only mean a second or so pause for a breather not literally get up and have a stretch and a chat!
pschometric test- passed
eye test- passed
interview-passed
medical -passed
pjft- 9.02

push ups 72
pull ups 8 but it nearly killed me!
sit ups 70 form questionable

Sore shins after run today :-? i tried that tube excercise but just couldnt grasp it, you will have to show me in RT james.

There again thats the first sign of the soreness in months, its only after i have been really pounding out the running that they are sore.

EURO, DAMN MAN THAT REALLY DOES SUCK, but as everybody is saying, its just another month to crack on getting more impressive scores, best of luck mate!!!!

Hey mate,

Umm my scores were in one hit. I was pretty tired though because I couldnt sleep until like 4 in the morning cause im stressing bout the Marines.. but the pushups were 38 non stop then banged out the last 3.
and the 83 I went stupid fast at the start (which was a bad idea) I burnt myself out really quick and then went slow towards the end. didnt pause.

pullups had no problems doing 7 even hanging waitin for the last man. could of banged out more.

Cheer RGJ mate!

Ill be a month behind you guys :P but yeah hopefully ill be ready next time.
