'Dispatches' Channel 4.. Program about Marines in Afganistan
Hey guys just heard theres a program on Channel 4 on the 8th of January which is next monday about the Royals in Afganistan and other forces fighting the war against terror. The program explains how the MOD did not want this to be shown and how the war in Afganistan is going no where fast.
Should be a good watch.

dispatches and panorama always tend to get stuck in regardless of what the government thinks, which makes them worth watching.
Regardless of what you think of bravo 2 zero etc, panorama got stuck in and the government tried to stop them investigating it fairly recently (probably about a year or so ago). They asked some very good questions and uncovered evidence of foul play by our government. For example, the agreed helicopter that was due to pick up the stranded patrol at an agreed emergency rendevous point never turned up. The government claimed it was because they didn't know they were going to be there yet panorama uncovered evidence that radio messages from the patrol had been recieved but the helicopter had been told to stand down.
Things like this are bad for the government. What im saying is that hopefully this programme will be the same and will air cover ups by the government.
Only when the farts out in the air, will the smell go away.

Andy - saw the advert on channel 4 last night not long after you told me about it, looks pretty good. It will be interesting to see whats going on, they did a report last year on how we (U.S & U.K) are making the situation more unwinnable in Iraq, it was quite a good watch with some quite strong combat footage included, insurgents getting rounds into their heads, suicide bombs etc. In a way i think we should all, when its displayed, watch it if we feel so. We're signing up to fight, obviously the footage cant actually justify the real thing but it gives you a real idea of what we're getting into here, i hope i haven't caused any offence to anyone by saying that. It's just a thought.

20:00 Dispatches: Fighting the Taliban
Film-maker Sean Langan hitches a ride with the Afghan army to give afirst-hand account of one of the longest battles fought by British troops in Afghanistan. During six days of relentless attack and counter-attacks, he documents the bravery and increasing exhaustion of the soldiers as their supplies of food and ammunition run low, and highlights the enormity of the task facing all those involved

Just watched the Dispatches programme. Turns out it wasn't about Royal after all but about the Afghan Army and the British "OMLT" who were training them, and the battle for Garmsir.
Interesting though, the Panorama about the RM Brigade recce force showed them doing insertion ops into Garmsir which tells us that all British forces were actually withdrawn from the area after the Dispatches programme was filmed.
Its a difficult one because the Afghans have got to start taking action themselves instead of us Brits taking over these towns, but its hard not to feel like they are cannon fodder and going up against a much better enemy. The amount of casualties that were brought back to their aid post was quite high.
I can see us having to re-live the Battle of Garmsir to retake the town from the Taliban. Perhaps we will have the sense next time to set up a defensive area in the town and leave troops to defend it like we did in all the other towns around Helmand.
P.S On the advert for the one on thursday saw my mate!! The one with the radio on his back covering down a road.
