Raw Eggs

Post by digitalfreefall »

Is there any real training benefit to be gained by drinking raw eggs Rocky style ?

We have all seen it in film, im just wondering why someone would drink them instead of making a nice omlette !
Also, you would think that if you didnt vomit right there and then you would end up pebble dashing your pants within the hour.

Does anyone on the board do this or is it just another Hollywood cliche ?

evenin!

when i was seriously into my weight lifting a couple of years back, i often heard of people eating raw eggs as (apparently) they contain more protein than what they would if you were to cook them. dont know how true this is...
but anyway, if youre feeling rather hardcore, give it a go! after all, youve gotta try everything once! 8)

There is some stuff here about the warnings of eating raw eggs. I think I did it a couple of times didn't seem to do much.

Personally I think the eggs thing must be a bit old hat now, there are so many protein drinks and creatine on the market etc... Unless someone call tell us any different???

Raw eggs gives more protein however they have to be organic or something stupid otherwise you risk salmonella? But yea its more beneficial to bung a protein shake down your neck.

Pretty much the response I expected.

I had considered trying out protein shakes etc but someone on here pointed out that the corps has been doing fine without the use of them for almost 350 yrs and you wont be allowed supplements in RT.

Think ill stick to my Tuna Steaks.

I drink 3 raw eggs after each training session - with 1 apple + 1 pear + 2 bannanas + 1/2 pint milk - all blended together.

Great for Vit C and protien - tastes good too.

You could always boil the eggs for 40 secs.

ive got 2 bodybuilding mates who bang the raw eggs down them like theres no tommorow, and swear by them for bulking up. but i wouldnt reccomend it - like everyones said theres enough supplements for that.

about supplements being banned at ctc, when i went on PRMC it seemed like all the nods had shaker bottles with fancy coloured liquids and powders in them. they even sold energy powders by 'highs', or 'high 5' :-? in the naffi.

Protien shakes dont contain everything that eggs do ,when I was training with weights I would throw one or two egg whites and one egg yoke in.
You cant really taste the egg if you drink it fast.

I wrote somthing about this in another post not long ago, this is what I posted:
As far as raw eggs and salmomella goes, you would be very unlucky to be afflicted by it in Britain. After a large highlight of the risks in 1988, all British chickens are vaccinated against it and this is shown by the "lion quality" mark on egg boxes. In a study conducted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in 2004, out of 280,000 eggs, none were found to be contaminated with the salmonella bacterium. However, only 85% of eggs sold in the UK are from the UK and therefore hold the Lion Quality seal, and if you are as good at your maths as I am then you will realise that that leaves 15% of eggs sold in the UK that are imported, often from Spain, a country that doesn't have a vaccination programme. So basically it is really quite safe to eat raw eggs as long as they have that seal.

Eggs do contain a type of cholesterol found in many foods, called dietary cholesterol. Eggs, liver, kidneys and prawns are higher in dietary cholesterol than other foods. But the cholesterol we get from our food has much less effect on the level of cholesterol in our blood than the amount of saturated fat we eat. If you are eating a balanced diet, you don’t need to cut down on eggs (or kidneys and prawns), unless your GP or dietitian has advised you to do this. There is also no need to limit your weekly egg intake.

I consume a blend of milk egg and banana after every phys sesh, with no ill effects. Ensure that you consume it immediatly after getting them out of the fridge and you should be fine.

They don't have any advantage over protein shakes (which I also take), it's just an alternative.

they sell protein bars in the naffi so they cant be banned, but im not in training yet so dont take it as gospel. im hoping to take some protein powder down to ctc after foundation as i use it at the moment with great results for repair etc.
but will see what the reaction is in foundation first. if its definatley no, then looks like a lot of milk drinkin for me!
