CMS(R) is designed to train you to be a soldier and to prepare you for the rigours of service life. You will not be asked to do anything you have not been taught. You will have plenty of opportunity to learn the necessary skills. This training consists of character development, drill, first aid, map reading, fieldcraft, skill-at-arms, military education and nuclear, biological and chemical defence, as well as some time on adventurous training and on a realities of war tour.

The core of the course will be your physical development. This training has been specially designed to ensure that the physical training is progressive to minimise injury and properly prepare you for when you join your Regiment. Important milestones in the course programme are Week 3 when you will deploy on your first major exercise; Week 4 provides historic examples of the ‘art of soldiering’ during a realities of war tour to Belgium and France; During week 5 you will concentrate on developing your shooting skills with your personal weapon; the end of Week 7 when on successful completion of the drill test, you will be granted a long week-end leave.

Week 8 when you take your Interim Physical Assessment and are tested on all the military skills taught to date on a 72 hour exercise; Week 9 tests your character during adventurous training; Week 11 when you are tested on your ability to fire your personnel weapon; Week 12 when you are tested on your NBC skills and Week 13, which is the 5 day final exercise. All this leads up to the culmination of your Phase 1 Training, the Passing Out Parade on the Thursday of Week 14, to which you may invite family and friends. After the parade it is normal to be granted leave prior to beginning your Special-to-Arm training, termed Phase 2 training, which takes place at the appropriate Phase 2 Training Centre for your cap badge.

Badj

We try and help with some general information here but the best thing is to pick up the phone and talk to whoever your Army careers/liaison person is, and check.

I think you'll find that your instructors may unofficially change the passing standards to try and 'encourage' you to do better.

They did the same with us when I was in training. Even so, as long as you met the official standards you passed (we had one or two who couldn't quite make the new times).
