15 Weeks half done!

Post by Hankins »

Hey guys,

its been a while since ive last been on here, but i have a long weekend and i guess i should shed some light on what i think of training and what its like. I think that training so far has been one of the best experiences of my life, you learn new things each and every day and break barriers you thought you'd never be able to break. When i started in foundation i thought it was cool, but didn't like the ironing since you do so much but if you stick it out, it gets better except for the wet and dry aspect, being winter it gets chilly. But as you move on through quick covere when you first learn fire manuvure and then on marshall star with patrolling, i think it just keeps getting better. Then hunters moon (including survival) is a hang out because its all yompin and map reading but its a good time especially survival as long as it doesn't rain. Then you do all sorts of UGL, grenade training, dunker drills, helo drills, and it just gets better, you go from the gym to bottom field and i love every minute of it, just finished baptist run and i got I.C for my section so that is hoofin. If i can give any advice on what people have said for the first bit, it would be that you need to keep a strong head about you because you get f@#k about a lot with room changes and extra parades, thrashings...etc just as long as you can laugh at what happens and press on then you should be good, you also gotta remember that you can never go to far, theres always enough left to complete what ever task you are doing especially in fitness like yomps and speed marches. if you guys have any questions about anything just shoot, ill do my best to answer them.

Thats awesome mate, looks like you guys are really getting into it..

Is there a middle pass out parade? and if so, how have you found the first half compared to the second half of your training?

Cheers

- Andy

yea, you have your Arms drill passout at the time which our troop failed because we had only learned everything the night before, haha, but its not a biggy we just have to do it again. Theres a mini parade where the pt superiors are given out, the most improved recruit, the best recruit and then the section commander tapes. Since im only starting the second half i can't really compare what its like to the first half, the first half isn't anything bad but its all the basics, plus you have to do kit musters and everything in the morning, now it all starts to become more tactical which is what you want.

I can answer these for you although im no longer in RT due to welfare issues.

NO you defainatly can not get a permit for your car, if you want to take your car down there feel free but make sure it is out of a 10 mile radius from the camp. If it's found within 10 miles you can expect an interview with the company sgt major.

Sundays you will usually be doing admin, its after work on saturday you enjoy yourself by going into Exeter etc... for the first 8 weeks though it's shit you have to be back for 21.59

mate i spent ages at ctc and all my mates used to leave there cars at the nut well lodge pub just down the road from ctc they never had any problems just make sure you ask management first but they should be ok they were quite sympathetic
ex nod was diagnosed with chronic compartment syndrome rejoining eventually.

currently in australia as im traveling the world before i rejoin the marines.

Security reasons perhaps. Unsecured vehicles of serving British military personel seems a tempting target for terrorists.
