mechanical comprehension

Post by Bennie »

I have done a search but couldnt really find anything of use to my specific questions. when i done my recruit test i scored high on my english and average on maths, but however my mechanical comprehension was right on the line. the chap said that this means im not so bright when it comes to taking in information. but i would like to add i can speak italian and am in the process of learing german. so that wipes his theory out of the window.

my questions are

How will this effect me in recruit training?
why do i have to score higher at PRMC then normal people?

cheers

Correctamundo, you will need to score better in the bleep test on the PRMC, although I've never really understood the reasoning behind it. I don't see how scoring slightly better in one test makes up for not scoring so well in another.

And they don't so it the other way round either, "Oh he's got a degree so we'll ignore the fact that he can't run 3 miles."

In my opinion they should set a pass mark for everything and that be that (obviously giving you ample opportunity to redo it should you fail).

You speaking two languages will probably help you once you get in, I would hazard a guess that you might be singled out to do learn Arabic or something similar.

The mechanical comprehension I think is probably the test they place most emphasis on because it has the most relevance to the job you'll be doing.
Aways look on the bright side of life.

yeh mechanical comprehension is the area of intelligence you'll be using whenever you strip and clean your weapon, or try and work out coordinates on a map, so they place a high priority on it.

Well i failed my mechanical comprehenssion and i have no problem with the stripping and cleaning my weapon or am not that bad at map reading. Theres a lad who failed the test and did it again 6 months later and passed but he also has no problems.

Theres lads with high MC scores and are quite biffs.

All it means is that i struggle to take in the information when being shown to us as a group(dunno why?), but once i say i don't understand, i get taken aside shown 1 to 1 and i pick it up so easy.

Just don't be afraid to admit your struggling. I know a few lads who do but it's them who's losing out.

Exactly how i find it.

Future marine when you failed your mechanical comprehension test did the recruiter say you had to get level 12 on the bleep test? is this true?

It's actually level 11 you have to get.

Dont wanna burst your bubble there Bennie, but being good at languages is different from being good at other things, principly because it uses different areas of the brain.

Im not making a comparison, but look at autistics - some of them absolutely excel in some fields.
