Does anybody know any worthwhile books that I could buy which cover military skills like fieldcraft, weapon handling, commando skills ect. Obviously this question could be potentially stupid

Also look at the US Infantryman's manual and survival manual.
You'll probably have to purchase these on amazon, but worth it if you want a good idea of what infantry actually do.
