FROM RECRUIT TO OFFICER

Post by batess01 »

hi i was just wondering,

what are the steps to becoming an officer without doing POC?
doing PRMC then working your way up, how does that work?
and also how long does this "USUALY" take.

thanks

You normally go in as a recruit then do a few years and then get offered for officer i think. A PTI at ctc said he got offered to go for officer at the end of his 32 weeks but said fark that because the thought of doing another 52 weeks was appealing. But he said the offer stil stands if he wants to go for officer. I think i read on here that 30% of officers come through the ranks.

so you meen

if you do the PRMC then complete the 32 weeks on recruit training

1) you cant choose to become an officer, you have to get it offered to you?

2) if it is offered to you, or you are allowed to become an officer, do you have to do another 52 weeks of training?

thanks very very much for this,
seb

You have to do a POC and do the whole of officer training again, but you get to wear your green lid whilst doing it.

thanks, what makes people do the recruit way raising in the ranks, rather then the initial POC straight away?

the reason i ask is because i saw a thread on page 92 or something,
and there was someone who was asking similar questions, and that triggered some questions of mine...

to become a great royal marines officer and to really understand what its like to be a recruit i thought it would be best to go through the whole 9months. then work your way up...

BUT

then doing the whole comando course again seems a bit daunting!

WHY ARE ALL YOUR TOPIC TITALS IN CAPS?
"Many are called but few are chosen, keep your webbing tight, your weapon clean and work hard, when times are tough be proud of who you are, trust in those above you and stay loyal to those around you."

Late Entry Commissions are few and far inbetween, and you will be in competition with C/Sgt's and above who have 20 odd years under their belt, SBS veterans who are looking for a way to extend their service, etc etc. Furthermore, the RM have plenty of officer applicants and recruits, but they are gasping out for enlisted recruits. They are unlikely to offer you a POC once you have completed RT and belong to them. Suffice to say: don't bet on it.

If you want to be an officer, go for POC, if you want to be a marine, go for PRMC. It's really that simple.
