To become an applicable for the POC and have a good chance at becoming a ROYAL MARINES OFFICER, what must you have? and what is good to have?
Do you need to have to have been at university?
What gives you the best chance possible for passing POC and becoming an officer?
thanks

POC A LEVELS? UNIVERSITY?
I'll have a look now, but do use the search button mate, there are some excellent posts about the POC already on this site. Also check out the POC Diary at the top if you haven't already, bloody good stuff there.batess01 wrote:thats fine , thanks alot.

^^ Read that, very helpful and informative, made by one of the forums finest.
I remember my first talk with the careers officer was April 05, second interview July 7th 05 third and final interview September sometime. Was then given a POC for 20th Nov 05, if I would have passed my POC I could expect my AIB some weeks later. If I would have passed this my name and the numbers of points that I aquired on the POC and AIB would enter a selection pool. The top 50 or so name and numbers would get chosen to go forward to YO training. I Probably could have completed the interviews and been given a POC date earlier but was just starting my As levels so wasnt in any hurry.
The way you apply will be the same whether you have a degree or just A-levels, you have to pass a selection interview (third interview) which focuses on current affairs (internationally and nationally), RM + Navy knowlege and where they are deployed. First two interivew are really just to check that your not a spanner.
I think I remember my careers officer saying that only 8 or so none grads usually get a place. And by the way, for the guys who have just passed AIB, your chances of getting into 06 batch are pretty good as word around the camp fire is that AIB scores this year have been low and the amount of people passing has also been low.

Pretty good doesn't help, just makes me stress about it all.
It's weird living in this limbo life at the moment. For everyone that passes PRMC, it's fairly simple (unless you get injured or similar). Pass, get a pair of boots and a RT date.
I've passed both POC and AIB and have no idea whether I'm in or not. It's making planning difficult. I was talking to a mate at the weekend about a couple of good gigs that are on:
"Sounds good, when are they on?"
"September. You coming?"
"I've no idea. I hope not."
"Eh?"
Role on July, at least I'll know one way or another. I think the reason they only run POC's from March to July (I think) is that anyone who went through in November would go mad from the waiting.

Ok mate, seeing as no-one else has done it:
Interview,
Interview,
Interview... (you get the picture)
These are for your AFCO to make sure you stand a chance - they don't want to look bad by putting a load of guys up for it who keep failing. You keep having them untill your AFCO is satisfied, I think I had 4 over the course of a year ish.
Medical - make sure you are working properly,
Pre-POC Brief - exactly that, check you are up to scratch and you know what you have let yourself in for,
POC - Read Deadhead's Diary,
If you pass,
Pre-AIB Brief - again, self explanatory,
AIB - Read Deadhead's Diary,
If you pass the AIB, your name goes into a pot. The Corp sees how many officers it wants in this years batch and a final selection board (you do not need to be present) simply skims off the number it needs from the best scorers at POC and AIB. The final selection board is meeting this year on the 12th of July.
If you are a Bursar or wish to get money then a different selection board meets mid-September so burars do not need to have done an AIB untill then (that should break my summer hols up nicely!!).
Time scale for all of this depends on too many things for there to be any piont in estimating.
Hope this helps,
Fred
