I keep getting really bad cramp?! can anyone help?

Post by ben1 »

Hi, I'm training to go in the royal marines and have been for quite a while but i had an incedent a few months ago when i was climbing off of a girl which gave me awsomely bad cramp which the pain lasted for around 5 days,(not that you all needed to know this i just thought the greater the detail of how i got it the more information i may be able to get through maybe moving funnily or something!) ever since this i cant go on a long run or do any sprints without getting cramp, sometimes i even wake up in the night with cramp, i'm controlling my salt intake as much as i can and stretching my muslces and warming up and cooling down properly but i dont seem to be getting much better, i work in welly's at the minute and i'm not to sure whether doing that in really cold environment could have anything to do with it but any advice would be very greatly appreciated because its starting to become a right pain in the arse....literally! thanks

matey, best advice you can get is from a doctor, would get it checked out and explain the circumstances... could be harmless, or you could of done something a little bit nasty. incidently, ive known a few people get hernia's from "climbing off of a girl", of course your age can come into play too, for example, could be growing pains - there are alot of factors this is why a doctor is advised.

thanks mate yeh your probably right, i used to have a hernia when i was about 3 years old had to have an operation because of it as far as i'm aware but that got cleared with my medical for the marines and everything was fine because i passed it, dont know whether to just have some rest though or carry on as i have been doing, only reason i posted was to see what other people would do because i dont want to fail at all i've not got any qualifications or anything and i've always wanted to be in the forces since i was about 8, i just don't want to iht a barrier that's gonna cause me to not be able to go in the marines because to be fair it means to much to me personaly wanting to do it not only to be the best but to prove to myself that i can do it so i'm sort of in a weird situation as to keep training on or not?! cheers for the repkly though mate appreciate it.

That's got to be one of the funniest causes of persistent cramp I've heard. Mate, if your doctor doesn't grin to that I'll pay for your treatment myself.

I agree with Hughser, go see your doc. He'll know what to do and, if necessary, put you in touch with the right people.

Ben

I would try and get it massaged first

And not the massage you are thinking about.... :o You might have strained something which a trained masseur can help unlock

Good luck 8)

i believe it's called 'sex withdrawal' - occurs whenever your not on the job

Seriously though, good stretches holding for at least 12 seconds and a day off in-between exercising the same muscles. On the dietary side as well as watching the salt, try not drinking tea or coffee and drink lots of water, it keeps your muscles better hydrated.

Working in a cold environment will not help, the colder your muscles are the tighter they become. Although cooling your muscles briefly after a good workout is beneficial, exposing them to the cold for long periods of time repeatedly is not.

Good luck

i sometimes get cramp after a long run, the best thng yo can do is just to stretch it out, and if the marines wont frown on it then you should get it checked out i guess if your worried. Either way it willgive you piece of mind

I used to get this a lot. I literally had to bite my pillow at 3am (no joke!) and scream into it for several minutes until the cramping and flexing of my thigh muscles finally stopped, unbelievable pain. I belive it to be caused by sweating and drying, sweating and drying etc.

I played a 6 a side footy tournament a few weeks ago and had it then, I was sweating for a game and then cooling off for 30 mins until the next game, this went on for at least 4 games. When I got in later my muscles started to become taught and flex on their own (cramp) giving me insane pain, even when I went to bed it kept doing it.

My advice is to keep fluids and salt intake up.

Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day, lack of is a very common cause of cramp.

Also you might want to consider your salt intake. Salt is important in providing a balance to lactic acid, so though everyone is banging on about too much salt in the avaerage diet it is importnat that you have enough.

Final solution is to get on your back and let her do the hard work!
