Im a no go on medical grounds. What I wouldn't do to be in your shoes.

Might sound like shite advice but when your absolutely exhausted and thinking to yourself "why the fcuk am i here", you'll can always think of people like me who aren't luck enough to where you are, and that you're actually fortunate. Would probably work for me, anything to keep those legs going one in front of the other eh :D

However!!

You should also note that when your in a rain soaked hole late in june early july, I'll be in Magaluf stealing all the women!! :D

Xcj, have you heard anything else about laser eye surgery? Your application might not be a complete write off...

Apparently I have 'amblyopia' in my right eye... or in more common terms, a properly fcuked up right eye!

It's a lazy eye basically, and before anyone thinks i have one eye facing the sky or whatever, thats a different condition - mine is purely a vision discrepency and to look at me you'd have no idea.

Apparently, my problem isn't the actual eye, its the 'wire' connecting my eye to my brain, so my eye sees perfectly but my brain doesnt interpret the image or whatever... yes im as confused as you!

I can still see out the eye, dont get me wrong, its just detail I cant see. When im sitting here typing, i can see spiffingly because my left eye is doing the work - and fortunately for me the vision in it is good.

Even with the chips stacked firmly against me, i'm still hopeful that something can be done in the future. They can put a man on the moon ffs, so who knows what the future may hold.

Also im clinging to the (maybe faulse) hope that one day situations will change and i'll be able to apply anyway. As i said in a post a while ago, IF the SA-80 was purely left shoulder use, i'd meet the eyesight requirements as my right eye meets the current requirements for a recruits left eye.

However it's not and I may be clutching at straws.

Either way it doesn't matter as at this moment in time theres nothing I can do except hope.

P.S. Just got a flashback of the shawshank redemption talking about hope there, brings a tear to the fcuked up eye.

That's unfortunate. Not done too much research on eyesight as i have no problems with mine but is it the same for all the services? If not would you ever consider joining one of the others?

Yes I would have, without doubt. I wrote to all the services and it was the same for all.

I never formally applied, but enquired. As I understand it, a failed application for medical reason can sometimes jepordise any future applications, regardless of situational changes.

I don't know.

To top it all off, my right eye fails the police requirements by 1 line.

Coming to think of it, with my luck it's probably best I don't join an armed force :o
