Seriously buddy,

In regards to current affairs, pick six topics, and make sure they're varied.

For eg. a couple of international affairs, a couple domestic and a couple economic. Make sure you have your own opinions about them aswell as they will ask!

As you've mentioned, keep up to date with the UN, NATO, JRRF and who the heads of these organisations are, esp NATO!!

i personally wouldn't worry about knowing the 'corporate mission' of the RAF, though you're right to know about the different commands, who all the head honchos are, the various ops, ie Telic etc.., where aircraft are stationed, IOT, and of course all the branch choices that you have inside out.

But do make sure that you're prepared for part 2! theres no point being an ace in part 1 only to get through and be a lame duck through luck of prep and too much attention towards the interview.

Hope this helps fella, and any questions you've got feel free to ask! 8)

big cheese is right in the sense that u dont want to go over board with regards to revision for the interview as u will literally clog up ur brain with info and just not be able to think clearly when it actually comes. in terms of knowing stuff, i think they covered about 5 % of the info i had learnt.
i would know about raf ops, equipment, nato and UN but also a bit about old warsaw pact and SEATO, branch info and training, IOT and that genrally covers evrything in terms of revision. aslong as u know this stuff and have a v good answer to stuff like ' why do u want to join the RAF ' then u will be fine.
also dont need to over do it on current affairs as this is done in a flash as the seem more bothered about u having an opinion on something and being able to reason ur views.
also like big cheese said, there is just as important stuff as after the interview in part 2 which u need to prep on such as prob solving (know ur speed distance time equations etc) and the group discussion (practice debating with ur peers and seniors so ur not flaping when it comes to the real thing) and if u can get to do any practical problem solving task then all the better.
good luck and ask away if u have anymore Q's

One thing to do is not just learn about NATO, learn how it has affected the RAF. One of my questions at OASC was - do you know why the RAF have pulled out of the German bases? The answer - beacause the cold war has ended and the reason for the RAF being in Germany was to help defend against the countries in the Warsaw pact, which doesn't exist anymore. (Obviously it's a tad more complex than that, plus the army are still there - but it illustrates my point).

So try and do that with all the current affairs/political stuff you learn, if there happens to be an effect on the RAF in any of the topics you learn, make a note of it.
