short sighted Paras?
Alright then...So I have been recently considering joining the Royal Marines, Paras or another such 'crack' unit but the thing is, I am a bit short sighted. Do they let short sighted bastards in? If they do, what is done about said short-sightedness? I have done a bit of research but its not really mentioned anywhere.
Thanks then

well if you jump out of a plane and you cant see the ground my top tip is that its the large thing below you and when you hit it its hard.
Did you hear about the blind man walking into Debenhams and swinging his guide dog above his head? The assistant asked if she could help and he replied
"No thanks Im just having a look around!"

Contact lensesOK, and then for serving soldiers how do they avoid it becoming a practical problem eg. when jumping out of planes of in situations that would normally lead to ordinary glasses steaming up or whatever?
Im not an optition, but there was a lad in my training platoon (who is now coming to the same battalion as me) who had glasses all throughout training. He got issued the good old thick, black-framed glasses, but got away with wearing his normal glasses. But as for parachuting, im not sure glasses would be such a good idea, leaving a herc in a 150mph slipstream getting ragged all over the place!

The worst bit about wearing them is when you go on the ranges, there so big the only way i could look down the sight was with the frames pushing up against the sight and against the bridge of my nose.
Everytime you fired a shot even though the recoil isent that hard it feels like you have been punched on the nose.
Your lucky if you get black framed ones, i got NHS super saver turtle shell.
Check out the size of the badboys compared to a "normal" sized frame/lense.

Well i didnt suss out the eye test one, we were too busy laughing at one of our lads who was squinting on the eye test, had to be seen to be belived. But the hearing test would of been a doddle to cheat on, get your mate behind the tester to put his thumb up every time he pressed it!! I didn't cheat though.Jobag wrote:Basically, if you can read the top few lines of the letter board, then you will be ok.
The eye test in catterick is really east to cheat on, same with the hearing test. So everyone in my training platoon left catterick with perfect eye sight and hearing
