RAF Regt re-application after pre 6 month PVR

Post by RobboDwyer »

In Feb 2004 i started basics at RAF Honnington to be a gunner, i got to week 11 and was taken off course and put on Remedial Training Flight (RTF) as i was struggling with the pace of the course. While on RTF problems developed with the health of a relative at home, as i was not on course this was playing on my mind and in the end i put in for a PVR on personal choice and left the service at the start of June 2004.
Now more than a year on i would like to go back in to the regiment, understanding and accepting that i would have to begin basics right from the start and was wondering how or if my previous short service would affect my application.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Rob.

Rob,

I'm sure they'd be glad to accept your application again. There is a minimum waiting period of 1 year before re-applying and you'd have to really convince them that you'd see it through this time!!!

You'd need to go through the entire selection process again, including PGAC.

I wasnt so much having difficulties with the content of the course but with the time management aspect of admin in the field, the staff put me on to RTFwhen i was on signals week as the course were about to do what was then fieldcraft section four (which on the new version of the 18 week 10 exercise would be field excercises 9 and 10) where good field admin is key. So they took me off course so i could have a month or so on RTF to sort out my field admin as the lessons on RTF are at a slower pace then start back on course from the start of phase 2.
Then the problems at home arrose and i have already told you what happened as a result of them, though since leaving just over a year ago everything has settled down, ive maintained my fitness levels, and am totally prepared to re-do all the pgac, interviews, medicals etc. all over again im just keen as mustard to getback in and on the tg course.
Thankyou for your replies to my initial post guys and ill have to convince the afco and regt that i wnat to get all the way through.

It doesn't matter why you quit out last time...just make sure it doesn't happen again...as you'd be denying someone else the opportunity to have a crack at it!
