Daft TA related Question

Post by Bliartheliar »

I failed my PRMC this month (june) and have been given 6months to get my arse fit. So I will try again in around December/January. However, in the meantime I want to get involved in something in the military although my ambition is still the Marines. Would it be worth it applying to the TA and what is the minimum required time to serve?

Ive looked at the website, which says that you can leave at any time but you should consider your determination before applying. Has anybody joined the TA for about 6months?

depending on which unit you join you may not even finish basic in six months time, i was already very fit when i joined so they rushed me through the recruitment phase, basically you have to pester people to get things done, dont let them put you to one side and forget you and you could be fully trained in 3 months which is about as long as it took me, and they will start paying you as soon as your army number comes through and you will get back payed for your time as a recruit

theres supposed to be a minimum of 3 years but you can leave whenever, especially to go onto the regulars, you just hand back your kit and dont come back

i agree with the above - on average your going to do about six months training before sent off for your two week recruit course with the regs.

if you actually told them you planned that then they may advise you to go elsewhere, because i cannot think of many units that would want to spend the time training you only to lose you as soon as its (nearing?!) completion.

why not go visit the RMR?

I wouldn't bother if I were you mate, for just 6 months it isnt worth their or your time.

Just crack on with your training and when you pass prmc I'm sure the RM will teach you everything you need to know!!!

Thanks for the advice lads :D

Spooky, ive looked into the RMR in the past, but if im not fit enough to pass the PRMC then im not fit enough to get into the RMR.

If I was to join a TA unit it would have to be 4 Para or the RGJs(v). But id settle for an infantry TA unit. Ill just look around a bit for any information then decide.

Thanks again.

paras arnt any less fit than marines, just a little dimmer and crazier

if you cant hack RMR then 4 para wont be any easier

difference is though that both 4 para and RMR will help you get fit by working out a shedule with you and beasting you on drill nights

its not a baptism of fire like the prmc is, yes they expect you to have an average to good level of fitness when you start but not prmc pass standard fitness

if i was you i would seriously think about RMR because i would imagine it would give you a good headstart in commando training when you go back
to try again

and im not 100% on this but i think you can go from RMR to RM, so ive heard anyway but you might want to check this out, as they told me the same thing in the TA about going to regulars but the actual precedure isnt very practical

I honestly don't see the point in joining a reserve service if your allowed to go back in 6 months, depending on who you join the paper work could take half that amount of time.

6 months will fly by, just crack on with your training.

yeah if you did blairthe liar, you'd probably end up waiting to finish your reserve training before you join up full time like i did

i didnt want to join up untill id finished my TA training, that way if the worst came to the worst and i was injured i would still be a fully trained stab at the very least

It might be worth looking into the RMR Holding troop sessions: If you explain your situation to them they should be able to put you in with the holding troop Phys sessions which will give you a good RM Style thrashing every week, if the Holding troop sessions arn't running for some reason then have a word with them anyway, they might be able to help you out, Possibly, if your lucky they may let you join in on some of the recruits Phys, but i doute it. Well worth a try though!
