Free Time

Post by coulson42 »

Hi, I searched for what I was looking for some this but couldn't find what I was looking for so here goes...

I was talking to a bunch of guys in the Army yesterday and they said if you pass basic your hours of work are like an ordinary job and that you finish at about 5pm unless your on excercise etc. They also said they nearly have a full day dedicated to sport, plus they get to go home on weekends etc.

Now I know that the Marines are different to the Army and I know that they may just of been making it sound nice and easy so all I basically want to know is where do the Marines stand on the free time IF you do pass basic.

Cheers

I know you used to get a whole day for sport and I probably expect you still do. God bless the service.

Most Marines Stand over there during their free time, unless of course its Sunday when they stand next to over there.

Cdo Logs we had every Wednesday afternoon for sport (or sleeping as we medics called it) sometimes lucky to have another afternoon off in the week if you'd been away alot, and finished at 1300hrs on a Friday. Sometimes you got unofficial days off in lue if you had been away that wasnt leave, and after a 24hr guard duty you would turn too for normal work and get the afternoon off...handy really as you had been awake for 30 odd hours.

59 we had more time off in camp but then we were away alot more so it balanced out...ish.

Theres also loffing which is an art form...taking a landrover to visit another unit as they have some paperwork or equipment you need etc etc

If all the works done and done well and theres nothing else to do most of the SSM's Ive worked for thin you out early. Matelot SNCO's dont do it but RM's do.

Only tip on a weekend and your in your pit with a hangover is close curtains lock door, as some twonk has usually failed to show for guard duty and the duty SNCO is on the prowl to ping some unlucky git as a replacement. Never surface from your grot before 1100hrs on a weekend as if theres pinging to be done you will be the one copping it.

Once you pass out it is "sort" of a day job with the exception of excersises and if you are duty. The human body does need sleep you know.
Each branch would have a duty section ie, duty driver, gate duty (GD mostly) chefs (obviously) etc but yeah on the whole you would expect to finnish about 4.30pm Exceptions of course would be whilst you are actualy on some sort of course Signallers, PW etc.

FPGRM work funny hours I believe but I can't comment on that as I have never been there.

Mind you, if you get Sticky Blue's job you get a "make and mend! every day!!

Make and Mend = afternoon off
