Army taking over Rapier duty

Post by jon_rafreg »

A lot of people have recently been saying in these forums that the Army are taking over the GBAD role. Where have people heard this from as at my local AFCO the Cpl who I spoke to said that he hadn't heard anything about this change? :-?

TJD is correct,

Aparently, the reg dont need the rapier as we havent been to war with anyone who can sneek past tornado!

I think its a big mistake! the whole reason the reg was formed was because the RAF coudnt rely soly on the army for surface to air cover!

I heared a story from the falklands war that an SBS officer alegidly shot down an argi low flying jet with a GPMG fired mounted on the shoulders of two solidly built SBS troopers! Im gonna practice clay pegion shooting to be on the safe side!

However Im promising a big cuddely toy to the first rock to prove he shot down an enemy aircraft with a LAW-94!

I think that was mentioned in the "first into action" book.

What you dident mention (not having a go, you might not of read it) was that there were 2 jets and the guy was aiming at the first jet and shot down the second because of the speed of the bullets

Obviously the guy hadn't practiced any clay pegioun stuff or he would have allowed for the windage, Ill remember that as thanks to hoon the goon im left with a choice of GPMG, pebbles, or spitting to provide AIR to ground cover!

Mind you shouldnt affect me too much as I want to go to 2 squadron anyway!

gnrgreenhill,
Aircraft flying L/R at 450mph, range 500yds at 300 ft [approx].
How much do you lead it [using your clay pigeon experience of course]

Ah supply squadron? Surely you cant mean RAF Regiment, coz your attitude is more suited to SERCO then the SERVICES!

Christ every git and his dog wants the magic two, their are other field squadrons you know, and what makes you think that you are good enough for 2 squadron?

Whilst I may disagree with what you say, I will fight to the death for your right to say it.

Good question - what is a pegioun?
The Pegioun was a failed French attempt to inter-breed a wood pidgeon
and a penguin
