Post by stever »

one thing i do know its a feckin hard course

sqns at the depot [ it was a while ago] used to supply troops if 4001 flight was short...

i know from fellas whom i served with the final excersise

is GRUELLING

i dont suppose its any different nowadays !!!

there is some mention of the jroc course in the journal of the raf regiment

"the centurion"

you could write to the regiment shop at honnington

buy some back issues

to get a flavour of what the sqn's in the raf regiment are up to ??

anyway good luck when it comes

and update us about how your doin :D

4001 flight or tsf

is wait till i delve back in to the old grey mists of time

tsf = training support flight

one of the current rocks should be able to tell you if they are still in exsistence i think so but not 100% sure

tsf does all the support for courses

ie bods if jroc needs a couple of troops to fill out sections for excersises

or drivers for ranges ect

Apologies for my absence, been v. busy as of late

Anyway, down to business!!

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but here goes.

Prior to starting JROC, all studes do one month with the Phys Ed flt, naturally the fitness requirement between IOT and JROC is quite a jump, so this is perfect to bring everyone up to the required standard.

After this key elements of the course are:

Week 7 - Exercise Long Cuff:After progress tests and the RAF Regiment fitness tests, the course undertakes a 72-hour exercise to test individual skills. Its undertaken with full bergan loads as individuals initially and then into four man teams.

Weeks 10-12 - Three weeks instruction in section level command and tactics, culminating in pairs, fire team and section level live firing. This period includes three exercises.

Weeks 13-15 - Three weeks of instruction in flight level command and tactics, includes hasty attack, (flight battle drills), ambush, wood clearance, fighting patrols, the deliberate attack and defence. Theres four exercises in this period.

Weeks 16-17 - Twelve days in the field on two exercises. First is a five-day defence ex, followed by a turnaround, then a seven day ex at Otterburn trg area to consolidate all skills taught to date.

Week 21 - A two-day operations other than war package with three days of FIBUA.

Weeks 24-25 - Final ex, eight day dry ex, followed by two days of field firing qual, and finally four ranges at flight level or larger, including offensive op at night.

And finally the coveted mudguards!

I'm told theres a workstation to prep you for flight command aswell

Hope this helps

Usually a Field Sqn 'donates' a Flt for the major JROC Ex's as 4001 Flt don't have that kind of manpower available.

Got a look at the course guide for 106 course, they certainly pack it in, doesnt appear to be alot of chances for time off, the odd weekend here and there.

And they are extending it to 7-8 months long! Nice

mate, have you though about asking RAF Regiment Dave for some info and advice? I'm sure he'd be glad to help, always seemed pretty tip top?

Just an idea but why not try talking to some of the baby zobs on your nearest Sqn or failing that OC Regt on your nearest Stn.
