I'm nearly seventeen and I have decided that I want to join the Royal Marines Reserve whilst I'm in college. I have wanted to join the marines for ages but I can't be arsed to wait till I finished college and university
(if I go) so I had a little read and found the RMR, they sound as tho they are on par with the Regulars.
Do the Regular Royal Marines treat the Reserves like the pongos treat the TA
(Major slagings at every opertunity)?
Do you know if the training covers everything that the regulars do and if
its to the same standard? The thing is I don't want to go and join them to
find that I'm not supported or liked by the regulars and that I can't change my mind and do the regulars training. Do you think it's a worth wail move - joining the RMR?
Also, have you got any solid tips on Pre-selection fitness build ups, there are loads out there but which is the best - Baring in mind I have a couple of months and my fitness is far from the mark that it should be.

Cheers

Hi there
If you klick onto.

http://www.royalmarinesofficialsite.co.uk/html

This will put you onto the official website klick onto RMreserves, and this will tell you where you local branch of the RMR is and what training it does,as for the respect no matter what branch you belong to as long as you wear the badge and serve under the colours you will have the respect.

I have never in all my years ever heard anyone ever say anything bad or negative about the RMR. The truth is that over the years the Corps has looked to the RMR to bolster numbers even in conflict areas.
Your right about the TA I did some time with them, the difference is the RMR are treated as part of the Marines the TA are just weekend warriors who only do it for the money in a lot of cases, there are exceptions to this.
I always remember my RM Cadets wiped out almost a battallion strength of TA one wet day on Salisbury that was fun.....

as a rubber dagger in training, i must say that we are on a par with the regulars, training is longer a lot is done in your own time, thats the easy bit.

you have to stay commited and just keep going. remember you are going to be treated like a recruit for about a year possible more. i attended my cmdo course with the RMR last month, only do damamage my ligermanets on the endurance course, but i will be going again.

if u get injured you ave to watch ya mates pass-ouit and become the blokes you have to take tips and orders from at your unit- thats hard.

at my unit 32 passed selection
and 12 went on there cmdo crs
unfortuntly only 7 passed.

this shows its as hard for the reserves as it is for the regulars
