bbc to show video of dead british soldiers in streets
The bbc has decided to make a program about iraq war
despite the protests of the families, they have decided to show extensive footage of dead british soldiers lying in the street and being gloated over by the iraq militia
Surely the wishes of the familiies should come first here?????
And i cant imagine aby brits want to see this on a channel we pay for?

This was the first time we've had extensive and "live" coverage of any war, with reporters and crews attached with certain units. On one hand it gave us a better understanding of the ever changing battlefied and an alomost (!) real time view... the increased footage has led to the danger of the public seeing events that they really shouldn't see - especially if it was live and couldn't be edited or pixelated.
In this case I find it unfortunate that the footage exsists but I find it sickening that the BBC are going to show this footage - there's absolutely no need. They should have the families in the forefront of their minds and understand what the implications will be!

Having seen some of the unseen footage from the Balkans shot by the BBC, edited by the BBC for one of our officers I do not think the families should see these pictures. The footage I saw was done for an officer who left the area and was very graphic. It was done as a favour to him from the Beeb guys. One thing it did show was 'war is not glorious nor glamarous'. It was fantastic footage, sad, but tastefully edited. The lads whoo were killed should be allowed to rest in peace and the families should not have to suffer the events again... they are still suffering.

Like that will make a scrap of difference now! We all know who they are going to show and I think the families wishes should take utmost priority. Its barely weeks since it happened! In years to come it could be shown with less trauma for the families, but not within 8 weeks of it happening for gods sake!Midshipman786 wrote:well they're not exactly going to show the faces, they'll be pixellated out.
Would anyone here want video of their loved ones lying dead in a desert splashed all over the nations tv screens? What about the dignity of the fallen men? Do they not deserve anything?
Why? Because I can!
Spot on, put far more eloquently than me, the only people who have the right to decide are the familiesJulesB wrote:Like that will make a scrap of difference now! This is tasteless in the extreme. No doubt justified on the grounds of artistic freedom by the Beeb. Sure, the famillies know what happened, but showing every graphic detail on national T.V. is very un-caring. Typical BBC, though.

Isn’t it terrible when it comes down to viewer numbers over a families right to morn privately and not have there terrible loss splashed over the TV...where is the respect for the fallen, the bbc should let them be

This is why Americans were enraged over Al Jazeera showing murdered POW's. A crime is a crime, if BCC shows the images they show be put up on war crimes.

Has this been proven yet? I ask this question seriously and not inflamtory... very little, apart from 'initial' reports has been said over here. One for the war crimes commission perhaps?murdered POW's

why exactly do we shy away from seeing our dead? are we all cowards or are we in some sort of denial? this is what wars all about people, death and blood and gore. i feel for the families but they dont have to watch it. but if i were them id want people to see it so we can all see the results of our politicans actions with our own eyes. i want that tosser blair to watch especially an i hope he feels f****** guilty as well.
well imho its not a mater of shying away, its a matter of the wishes of the families taking presidence over everyone elses wishes.Midshipman786 wrote:why exactly do we shy away from seeing our dead? are we all cowards or are we in some sort of denial? this is what wars all about people, death and blood and gore. i feel for the families but they dont have to watch it. but if i were them id want people to see it so we can all see the results of our politicans actions with our own eyes. i want that tosser blair to watch especially an i hope he feels f****** guilty as well.
