What would you do?

Post by GlenHookway »

what would you do if you had a chance to take up a scholarship to play football in america or Join the royal marines? - i cant decide which one would be best for me. i was thinking that if i did the scholarship then came back and joined the marines i would be fit enough from all the training i would be doing. what do you think?

Blimey mate! That is a tough one!!

If you dont mind me asking, how old are you? Obviously it depends on what you want more, but there possibly is room to do both if you're young enough. It's up to you which one you want most though.

As is usually the case with these sorts of dilemmas, only you can decide what you really want to do. However, there is nothing wrong with asking for advice from like minded people.

I think it depends on how long this scholarship is. Is it a few years, 1 year? Do you have a commitment to play over there at the end of it? What's the deal?

If it's only a few years then go for it. You'll have a great time, get very fit and you can join the Royal Marines afterwards. If you don't, are you going to regret it later? You say you want to do both. If it's possible then do it.

However, if it's a case of one or the other, then I'd choose the Royal Marines. This is something you will be proud of until your dying day. It will change you from a boy to a man and give you a new feeling of self confidence that you will most likely not get elsewhere.

You can also play football in the Royal Marines. I'm guessing that if you've been offered a scholarship you're pretty good. You'll probably stand a decent chance of getting into the Corps team and could then play all over the world.

You can have your cake and eat it, but it is up to you to decide what you want to do.

I would say totally the oposite, go for the schollership and enjoy your self, the Marines will still be here in a few years time.
imagine if you go for the Marines and get badly injured and have to leave at week 16 or something, you will be screwed.
You would be mad to pass up a chance like this, you can come back when you are 20 odd and have a crack at the Marines, you will probably stand more chance of pasiing then any way. this football thingy is a one off chance, dont be a fool.

Are we talking football here, i.e. Soccer - or - American Football?
I think all our correspondents are assuming Soccer! If it's American Football - go for it - you will make a bomb.! If it's Soccer, then it will take a lot of thinking about. The American College system is very good and if you can get a scholarship, then it is worth considering!

I would definately take the scholarship mate, as the guys have said, Royal will always be there later. I believe you can join up to the age of 28, so that would give you ten or eleven years from now to join if you decided to. Not to mention the fact of a free university education to boot!
No question here mate, take the scholarship!
