Hello

Post by donnyoddlegs »

Hi everyone. Just registered and thought I'd do a quick intro. My name is Pete, I'm 20 and am hoping to become a Royal Marine next year. I'm hoping to do my PRMC fairly early next year, probably april. It would be earlier, but my training was rudely interrupted by a fractured foot, thanks to a colleague of mine dropping a stock crate on me. It was pretty frustrating for months sitting around and getting fat, when all I wanted to do is go for a run! On the plus side, I read so much about fitness training during that time that I'm practically a PHD now.
I've been reading the forums for a couple of weeks now and would like to thank everyone for the ton of info on here. It's been of great help and it kept me amused while my foot steadily throbbed away. Fortunately I'm back in training now, and loving every bloody minute of it!
Any replies will be gratefully received, particularly from anyone planning to do PRMC in late april/early march.
Cheers.
Pete

Welcome to the forums Pete.
Bummer about the foot mate, I hope you kicked the ass of whoever did it, well, not kicked obviously. Pun intended.
I failed my PRMC in July, so if you wanna know how to fail it, I'm your man.
Welcome mate,
Josh.

Well well Gunn, it seems we have a contest on our hands eh?
The title for PRMC F*ck Up Champion is up for grabs. I reckon there'll be a fair few contenders other than us lurking around this place mate.
In the words of Kirsten Dunst in that cheerleading epic of the same name, "Bring it on!"

Cheers for the welcome mate. Unfortunately I didn't do anything to the genius who crushed my foot. But I DID yell 'you stupid f*cking b*stard!' at him, before I hit the ground and writhed in agony, causing everyone in the store to come rushing over and gawk at my rapidly swelling foot :D
What was your PRMC like mate? Obviously disappointing, but are you planning to have another go soon?

Hey Donny,
Well, PRMC is tough to put it mildly, for me anyway. Basically my mistake was not doing enough sprinting and basically beasting myself, because it was bottom field that killed me.
I was fine with the bleep, pressups etc, but just the high intensity beasting for 40 or so minutes was just too much. I would recommend you start training in sprints, hill sprints, and just beast yourself down in a park. Eg, sprint, pressups, situps, sprints, stress positions, more sprints, and so on, keeping a very high intensity with no rest whatsoever. Get a handle on that you should be in with a decent chance.
As for me I've had a slight change of plans and am now joining the RN as a medical assistant, then hopefully I can do the All Arms Commando Course so I can serve with 3 CDO Brigade. Unfortunately there's a long wait to start MA training, but I think it's worth it.
How long until you can run again mate? I'd strongly advise swimming in the interim, it'll keep you relatively fit so that when you start running again you hopefully won't have too much of a fitness battle ahead of you.
Anyway mate, feel free to ask any more questions.
Josh.

RN Medical Assistant certainly sounds like an interesting career, and bonus if you do your All Arms. As for my running, I'm giving it another couple of weeks before my first jog. I've been walking on it a lot recently and doing excercises a podiatrist recommended to get it back to strength. At the moment my training consists of strength training with weights (all low weight high rep stuff), pushups etc and swimming practically all the time. It's great to be back to training, but it won't feel right until I'm running again. Cheers for the advice about intensity mate. I'll sprint till my legs turn to jelly as soon as I'm able. All this for a green hat eh?
Well worth it. :D

Hey Gunn,
Mine was 26th to 29th mate. Ah the memories. Squeaky bunks, bottom field, what a time to be alive!
