What's best?

Post by shifty_uk »

Well im in my Final year at school (if i want it to be), and ive got to make the decission to leave at the end of the year or stay on at school, but im not sure what to do, when i leave im definently goin to the RMC (if i pass PRMC of course), but what age do you guys think is better for joining the Marines - 16,17 or 18, at the moment i dont want to stay on and the only career i want is in the forces!

Whats your opinion ??

i did my first prmc at 16 and it wasnt a problem except i didnt pass but personaly i would wait till your at least 17 because you will be physically stronger so better chance of passing and not getting injured.

i was told by the afco that i might not be able to join unitl i was 17 anyway

All i can say is apply a.s.a.p and get training then when you feel ready get that date for prmc.

Age doesn't really matter it's maturity what's important and if you've got that, go for it. But you don't want to be doing girls time for too long though do you.

Shifty,
Do you need to ask anybody if they think it'd be OK if you went to the bog, or picked your nose??? Nope, didn't think so.
If its such a huge decision for you to make then my guess is you just aren't ready to make the commitment.
Stay at school with the rest of the kids and get yourself an education.
Do they do O Grades or SCOTVECs in Common Sense these days?
If not, why not

Wouldn't it really depend on you? Some people probably aren't mature enough at 16 to stick with it. Then again, some 25 year olds are the same. To join the forces as anything from a RM to an RLC driver you need mental strength to be able to handle the training. For some, that comes with age. Others seem to be born with it. And others never seem to get it at all.

I joined at 16 and totally enjoyed my time in the Army but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had waited a couple of years.... Why not have a small go civvy street and then you'll really appreciate what military life has to offer you. The problem was, I didn't, so was always thinking the grass was greener and eventually it got me and I realised I couldn't be further from the truth :o

Go with your head not your heart, if you really want it, a couple of years won't change that 8)

i'm 17 and i'm doing fine physically, all the younger lads in our troop are doin fine, we did quite a bit of crawling on hunter's moon :o and we had men in there 20's crying not one of us youngsters cried. I rekon its down too the individual i you think your train your heart out while your at school then go straight in thats what i wanted too do but got held back. good luck whatever you do.
if first u dont succeed brush yourself off and try again!!!!!

Shifty,

Its all down to you and how well you think you will do on PRMC and in training. If you think you have what it takes at 16, then by all means go for it, but if you think you will stand a better chance at 17 or even 18, i would take the time out to train and possibly get a part time job or even do your A-levels (however they do take up alot of time.)

If i was in your situation, i would carry on at school, do my a-levels and use the extra 2 years to train to my max before breezing PRMC :P

Good luck whatever choice you make, but make it the right choice.

cliodna has a good point, it does take alot of commitment to become a RM. If you cant make up your mind then your deffinately not ready to take it on. You need to seriously think it through before making any regretable decsions.
