POC

Post by benjordan81 »

Hi guys,

Just starting to train for POC. I'm looking to take it around Jan/Feb time.

How about we post our training tips / times in this topic and it will give us all a bit of healthy competition.

What do you think?

Yup, am training for mine to, hoped to take it in October-November, but every time i get close to being ready i get injured(broken Arm, Fractured Skull), seems like someone upstairs might be telling me i should stop trying. I will survive though, haha.

Best tip i ever heard was if your not knackered and aching at the end of training, you aren't training hard enough.

Hi,

I've heard that POC don't start until Jan time - have you been to your AFCO yet? I'm going at the weekend.

Cheers,

Yup, had three interviews and was supposed to go to a Pre-POC thing in Newcastle this month but pulled out cause of injury and work.

In my last interview in June i was told that Oct-Nov was available may be different since then, but think will hold of till the next intake anyway.

I haven't been into the AFCO yet - could you tell me what the general process is? I've searched the forums but can't find this info out.

Whats the pre-POC?

Got a letter inviting me to my third interview this morning, so its likely that I'm looking at Jan-Feb time as well.

Going for a nice long run later :D

I'm going for my commission too, got my interview later on this month.

Advice wise? Someone on here wrote "When you think you're going to collapse through, count to thirty and it'll probably be over. If it isn't, take a deep breath and count again".

I'll start posting my times and stuff when I'm not so ashamed of them

My first was about a year ago, just the informal getting-to-know-me interview. Second was in April, and was just a bit like the first one, but also tested my knowledge of officer selection procedures and general Marines knowledge, and my plans and aspirations.
My third one will be a bit more heavy, and if all goes well they will give me dates for a medical, POC, AIB etc.

Hi guys,

Went for a 3.5 miler on Tuesday and did some sprint training yesterday. I haven't been running for a while and do have slighty achey legs today! Oh well - no pain...etc!

I'm going on another 3.5 miler today and then a rest day tomorrow.

Hows everyone else going?

Hi guys.

I've got my first formal (shirt and tie) Officer interview on the 20th and was wondering basically what it involves.

The letter says have a good knowledge of current affairs and of the Navy/Marines. Is there a website that i can use to help me find out the current location of all the Commando units, in relation to where they are posted at the moment (i'm guessing that this also applies where there is a Naval presence around the globe).

Is there anything particularly important that i should learn over other minor details, also what sort of current affairs questions do you get asked?

Simple:

www.royal-marines.mod.uk
www.royal-navy.mod.uk

These sites give youa good knowledge of the marines and naval deployments and facts etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about the interview. Its a formal chat about where your aspirations lay and what you want to achieve. Remember its as much for you to find out about the marines as it is for them to look at you so relax. When they say a knowledge of the marines, they just want to make sure you have a genuine interest and drive to want to join.

For current affiairs stuff i would reccommend www.guardian.co.uk

Let me know how it goes.
