Rowing Machine

Post by joethejudge »

I'm interested in purchasing a rowing machine. I was wondering what sort you would recommend. I would like to have a digital display on it.
However I need a pretty cheap one as I'm not exactly loaded.
Thanks for any suggestions.

The concept rower is a brilliant make but they are very pricey. Keep your eye out for a second hand one. They have 10 resistance settings and also as you wish a digital display.
You may be disappointed if you fail,
but you are doomed if you don’t try.

I would recomend you use a rower at a gym (the only useful bit of kit in a gym), cause they bolt it to the floor, i tried one in a mates house before, not bolted down, and i was sliding all over the floor. But yes, Concept 2 is an excellent rower :D

I have got one ... I never use it.
As Combat said, the gym ones are 10 times better than any you can buy. Unless you spend a couple of grand!

Buy a canoe or kayak and paddle long distances as quickly as possible. Fun, Reasonably cheap, Excellant Fitness and you pick up a new skill too! :)
If it doesn't hurt it's not worth doing!

I've decided to stick to the ones at the gym for now.
What would a good time for 1500m on level 7 for a 14 year old(me)?
Any suggestions welcome.
I thought around 6:20

*EDIT* Managed 6:35 this afternoon

6.35 is a pretty good time. It's probably more productive for you to compare your times to your own previous times (if that makes sense) rather than other people, ie time yourself best effort over a set distance once a week on the same day, and that way you will be able to see if the fitness work you are doing is having a positive effect.
Also, you are right to stick to the ones at the gym, it's better value than buying one because good quality machines cost a LOT.
I heard on TV a while ago (can't remember what programme) that Micheal Schumacher has seven concept rowing machines, maybe you could borrow one from him?

The concept 2 rower is a good useful bit of equipment, but they cost hundreds. Cheaper just to join the gym.

as part of my training programme the gym instructor says do 2000m in under 8 min on a setting of 10. this gives you a change from running and also works your arms. regards carlisle youth
